I got to wondering while at work today if my wife and I are the only ones. We picked up our golden retriever Charlie when he was 8 weeks old. On his second night in the house he had my wife pegged, wimper a little and she will pick me up and carry me everywhere! Well, little did I know I would have a 75lb think he is our child. All we have to do is look at him at night and say, "bed time?" and he RUNS up and hops in the middle of the bed. He's a cuddler, and to think we have his little sister coming in two weeks, little Chloe! Oh man, we are going to need a bigger bed!
So, are we the only ones? Or do you guys like cuddling up to your furry buddies?

Yup, both listed in my signature, and when we're at home, we're apt to have a couple of cats also. The more the merrier !

Our Golden tries to but if we move at all she jumps off the bed onto her dog bed or she sleeps with your 14yo. Our wife fox owns the bed and pillows, and lets us share the bed as long as we keep him warm.
In the old days, the sheep herders in Scotland had 2 story cottages, the sheep would spend the night and in foul weather on the first floor "barn" area...safe from the bone chilling cold and wolfs.
The family slept upstairs where it was warm and snug, and shared their beds with the herd dogs..often they were Shelties. Snuggled up and warm, they slept safe at night while the winds and wolves howled outside!!
We continue the tradition today.
We've been married 26 years, and in that period of time is was rare for a night to pass when at least one of our past dogs have not shared our bed. The first was a small terrier Queenie rescued from the dog pound...when she passed it was the 2nd dog, a sweet older Sheltie Sylvester (also a pound puppy), and a Shiba Inu (pound puppy), then a Golden Retriever K.C., again from the shelter, next was a doll of a Male Sheltie (from a breeder), and he passed on in 2010, and the current beast is a sweet heart Golden Retriever Abby!
I can't imagine not having a dog nearby when we sleep..and I actually cringe when folks tell me that their family dogs sleep outside year round. Even in colder climates thatn we have here in SoCal.
The real payoff is when the dogs have alerted us to issues and odd things going on outside the house in the the dark dead of night.
And yes...we even managed to conceive and have a couple of kids without "Canine Interuptus"....

It's funny you mention this. Most of the people / couples we know keep their dogs out of their bedroom at night. Now being in Alaska our Golden boy spends a lot of his time inside, I have a friend who keeps their golden's outside all the time when they are home except when it's bed time they bring them in.
It blows me away as you have said I couldn't imagine not having my little buddy snuggled up between my wife and I. I would admit, he does favor me a bit more and tends to just dump his big behind on me multiple times through the night. However I love knowing that if anything were to come crashing through the door he would alert us and gimme time to get to the night stand.
Protector and cuddle bud! Good to know we are not alone haha
Edit : Who wouldn't want to cuddle with this lil girl! Chloe!
I can only wish.
Maggie slept next to my left side, with her muzzle on my shoulder, for thirteen years. Most of these years, our calico cat was, until I fell asleep, on my chest with her head under my chin and paws on each side of my neck. When I drifted off, she moved to the foot of the bed.
Callie died in 1999, at 19 years five months. Mag passed in 2007, at 13 years and 13 days. (On Friday, 13th April).
Kaia moved in with us in May of 2007. She is, according to a majority of guesses, wire haired fox terrier and blue heeler. She will come up on the bed and play, rarely cuddles and then for only a short time. Then, she leaves our room and stations herself between us and the door. God help anyone who comes through that door without an invitation. I previously related how she saved us one night when she insisted I get up to see what was bothering her; it was a fire starting under the sink in the water heater wiring.
She cares for us very well, but we do wish she could break instinct and sleep with us. We would love to have her.
My Yorkie sleeps with me all the time. She hears everything, so if there is a noise in the trailer, she growls, if there is a noise outside, she barks. She hears things I never could. She thinks she is a doberman the way she protects the trailer. She loves her daddy and sleeps on his lap when not on guard duty. She is quite the companion. Guards the truck too. Sits or sleeps on the arm rest between the two front seats. Every time I slow down to stop she wakes up and checks out the cars/trucks beside me to see if they are okay. I honestly believe she believes she is supposed to guard everything and make a ruckus if things are not just right. She is a full size Yorkie at 11 pounds. I rescued her in Beaumont, TX. I love my baby girl to death and would not take a million bucks for her. She thinks everyone else loves her and wants to pet her too.

In the past our dogs slept outside on the deck, covered. They were a great deterrent to raccoons, rats, skunks, possums (I know, it's probably possum, or maybe even opossum), cats, mice, ... Even here in norcal they never asked to come in. Most nights they slept near each other. On the coldest nights they curled up together.
Now that our lab is on her last legs we've brought her into the house. When we did that she slept on our bed if we let her. Work nights it was no, non work nights it was yes. Now she sleeps on the low couch in my daughters room because she can't get up on the bed anymore. The chug (chihuahua/pug) rescue spent the first year under the covers with my daughter, but sleeps above the covers now (I think he finally developed a sense of security).
So, to finish a long story, it depends.
