We have friends that winter on Hilton Head Island. We'll be in the Smokey Mountains in April and thought we might take a detour and scope out that area. Anyone know of camping areas on the Island or nearby that take drop in travellers? We have a Bigfoot TT, so don't need a lot of space. Thanks.

Hilton Head Marina RV Park is a condo park and is very beautiful but a little pricey ($50+/night). The sites are privately owned and individually landscaped. They are rented and managed by a management company. We spent a week there last May and will definitely return. The entire island is beautiful but be sure to bring a GPS. They have sign and architectual restrictions, and most of the streets are parkways. As a result, you can easily drive past a store or attraction even when you're following a GPS. Stores and restaurants do NOT necessarily fit their usual cookie-cutter images. (No Golden Arches or neon signs)

I'll second the HHI harbor rv resort. It's the only one on the island that can take a TT. I think in April they will space for a drop in.
