If you want to do some hiking not far from Asheville, NC there is always the waterfall route between Franklin and Cashiers.

Here is a link to more waterfalls.

Safe travels.

Even closer is Brevard with all their waterfalls and scenic trails

You can head towards Boone and see Grandfather Mountain, Table Rock and Linville Gorge Wilderness Area and Linville Caverns. Beautiful waterfall at Linville Gorge.

Ashville is one of our favorite cities and you have some good suggestions to keep you busy. Definitely try to include the Biltmore Estate it will take a complete day maybe two to see it all. Have lunch at the Grove Park Inn and enjoy a drink on the open terrances.

Don't know how I forgot about the Grove Park Inn......I've lived here since 93' and when you think about it there is REALLY A LOT to see and do in and around the Asheville area...

Be sure to visit Lake lure and Chimney Rock State park. You can see parts of Chimney Rock in the movie Last of the Mohicans. Lake Lure is were Dirty dancing was filmed back in 86' . Grove park inn is another place in Asheville to at least see. Glassy Mountain state park below Brevard and Brevard is home to the white squirrels. Visit Mast General Store in Hendersonville . Jocasse gorge is another beautiful nature area.

Thanks so much! We're definitely going to see the antique motorcycle museum. One of the highlights of our trip to the Thousand Islands was a visit to the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, NY.

I think on the day we go there we will also drive into the Smokies and hike up Clingman's Dome.

Another day we might go south and see Hendersonville, Carl Sandburg's Home, Brevard and then the Pisgah Inn.

Another day we can drive some on the BRP - most of that can really wait though - till we retire and can soak it in with time on our side.

Oh man, I am starting to think we will need 6 months!

If you can afford it, Biltmore is ok for a quick see, bucket list item. Don't waste your time or money on their other money-suckers such as the winery or Antler Village.

Ever hear of those programs "Thousands of satellite TV channels on your PC for free only $49.95"? Well I don't recommend them, I mean after all what part of $49.95 is FREE? so they lie (And that's not the only one)

Try www.getmiro.com.. Same channels (internet not satellite, that's the other lie) all free.

One of the shows I "Subscribe" to with Miro is called "Coolest Things On the Palanet" it is part of "howstuffworks" dot com.

One of the shows they did, recently, was on Ashville SC.

IF, you are a member of the Moose.. they have a lodge with hookups there.

But what I'd recommend.. If you are visiting Ashville, is see if you can download that show. IT is downloadable I will try to find it.

Alas I could not find it.. Let me check one other place. ..Opps. that place does not exist at this time (My other computer is off).

I may have kept a copy of that video. Or you can E-mail them (You go to how stuff works and click on shows and then coolest stuff to get the link) and see if they still have a copy on the server.
