You said that you had a campground already but you should at least go and see Mama Gerties. It is built into the side of a mountain. We stayed at the top with our back window looking out over the mountains and the campground. They are building more sites even further up the mountain. We went for 2 nights and stayed for 4. What a beautiful spot. rvparkreviews or google it.

The Biltmore house is a must see. I was lucky enough to be there for Christmas.

Cruise east about 20 minutes to Black Mountain and walk around town. It is like visiting Mayberry. Pizza and micro brewery beer at My Fathers Pizza.
Head south on Hwy 9. Very fun, hairpin filled road that crosses the continental divide and drops you right off into Lake Lure.

Ashville has become an art meca, there are numbers of art galleries of all kind, the last time we were there it took us almost 3 days to see all of the art that is downtown. Do see the waterfalls , and see the towns of Emerald and the Highlands, this is beautiful country and there is so much to see, oh there is a small town south of Ashvill that has a train ride through the mountains and you can have supper on it and while you are in this town they have a renound porcelan artist that has his studio there, sorry I can't remember the town but if you will look for the train ride you will know that this is the town. We stayed in a campground called Moonshine Creek Campground and it is a beautiful place to visit. Good luck on your trip

One of our favorite thngs to do while in Asheville is to go the the Weaverville Milling Company for dinner. They run their restaurant in an old mill building with a crafts shop upstairs. Their specialty is fresh trout. It is truly a unique dining experience. Just a few miles north of Asheville. I'll also agree the Grove Park Inn is an excellent spot to spend an hour or two. They have their original elevator still in use. It was installed by Thomas Edison.

One of the shows they did, recently, was on Ashville SC.

Your search may go better if you have the correct spelling and state. It's Asheville, NC.

We love Ashville and the entire area. Downtown you will find a "scavenger hunt" that will take you to the many cute sculptures, etc. and will give you a chance to see the city. We've been there twice. Love eating at laughing seed http://www.epinions.com/review/Laughing_Seed_Cafe/content_243353947780

Grandfather Mountain, as was said, is great. If you hike, it's wonderful but even if you don't you'll have fun. Only problem is that this is private so it costs money to hike. You'll find amazing beauty if you do any driving along Skyline Drive.

Thanks for starting this thread! I'm planning a spring trip, and am going to add Asheville to it. The info is very helpful.

Hookers falls was neat too. It will probably be too cold when you are there but people swim in these and jump off the falls.

Having lived in Asheville I learned the panhandlers downtown hang out around the places where the turists go and can be quite agressive. There are quite a few and the business owners complain but the city ignores the problem. Lots of homeless downtown.
