Its been a long time for me since I bought a new RV. I have forgotten the bare basics.

I recall cut 20-25% off MSRP to start???

There was also several free publications one can read about factory costs, dealer cost etc.

Any help appreciated.

I wouldn't buy for less than 30% off of MSRP.

+!

On a cash deal, you should get 30%, possibly more off list price. I am in the process of bidding one now, and am getting that from several dealers.

So at an MSRP of $32,500 I should have only paid $22,750 for my TH? Would love to see where someone scored a deal like that. Best price I could find for a similar equipped unit was over $28K.

Maybe we are talking last years models - dealers are very eager to move those units.

Maybe less mark up on smaller ones??

I have a quote right here.

$98,578.00 MSRP List
$63,999 cash out the door.

Works out to 35% off. This is a 2012 model, arrived yesterday at the dealer.

All sizes usually have the same crazy markup, but some low number builds like the Shockwave's may not be marked up as much. I would compair the price to a discounted similarly equiped unit from a wholesaler to get a good range on what to pay.

I have bought two new toy haulers. First one was 34% off MSRP, the second was a little over 29% with a trade.

I used Holman's Rv out of Ohio to get a price and then had my local dealer come real close to matching it. They were way off at first then after some thought they came close enough for me to stay local. I would look at some of these large dealers to get a price then use that as a bargaining chip.

I looked at wholesaler prices and found them to be within $2K of what I paid. Factor in the tax savings for my trade and being able to support a local business (the dealer really has been great even after the sale) and I'd say I'm pretty happy with my deal.

These things are waaay over-priced indeed but I think your correct about higher priced units having higher markup. Likely comes down to demand. If the big expensive units aren't moving they will drop the price substantially and still make money. I looked at a 21' Desert Fox that was discounted from $43K down to $31K or about 30% but couldn't see spending that kind of money and not having a front bed. The dealer couldn't get the 24' DF anywhere close - probably because they have more demand.

Just my $0.02.

My RV buying idea went out the window after LaMesa Rv said my current Rv, a 2007 Forest river Sierra Sport F40spts was only worth 11K.

Mind you, its a 3 slide, 40' 3 axle 2 a/c fully loaded with satellite, solar panels etc in near mint cond. Its been in covered storage since I owned it.

I'll keep my 11k Rv for a bit longer..

factory costs, dealer cost etc= Who cares in this market! RV are not selling in this economy!! MSRP manufacturer's (suggested) retail price. So my advice has always been if you not laughing at your own offer it's too high.
