Having alot of things breaking and now have about 4000K in repairs on a seven year old truck. Upper oil pan leaking, power mirror broken, A/C mode in dash not working, suspension problem and now the speed gage jumping around. What do you think fix it or go out and spend alot of money for a new truck????

Truck other than that is in very good condition.

Google the dash issue. There are some independent shops that fix them on the cheap. Some even have exchange programs so your truck is not down for an extended period of time.

What is your suspension issue?

I had a 2003, bought in 2002, GMC Duramax Diesel and was putting money in it as well as having one particular thing, the PRNDL(Park/Reverse/Neutral/Drive/Low) switch had to be replaced, after warranty was out, three times. Paid for the first one but the other three were no cost other than the time to take it into the dealer and wait for them to get it "fixed". Last summer we spent about $1,500 in out-of-warranty repairs and decided we had had enough. Looked around and the best price by about $8,000 to $9,000 was a Dodge Ram 2500HD diesel with a six-speed manual, 3.42 rear end and long box. The GMC towed great and I really liked the truck but was getting tired of not knowing when it was going into the garage. Haven't towed the new fifth-wheel yet but perhaps in a couple of weeks will get to do so when picking up our boat at the dealer where our fifth-wheel is currently sitting. I would look for a new truck, but that's just me. I'm not a good mechanic, accountant by profession, so I don't like thing that are not covered by warranty generally.

The dash gage issue is a known and very common problem. That can be fixed on an exchange basis for a couple hundred dollars if dealer(GM) is not willing to do it for free. Depending on where you are getting the quote for repairs it sounds quite high. I guess depending on miles I would consider taking that 4K and putting it toward a new truck if I were in your shoes. Maybe it's time to try a different brand.

If you trade for a new one it will cost you a fortune, I would try to find a year or two newer 2006-2007, any newer have the huge exhaust pipes that are required to burn off the captured soot from the newer diesel engines, and are much less economical and require more maintenance and costlier repairs....jmho

New trucks are about a grand a month in payments.......or more. So that means you will only be covered for about 4 months in payments for fixing your truck. The other 50 payments or so are on you then.

I know what I would do.

Sounds like you just want a new truck though. Nothing wrong with that.

Lot of in for repair a Duramax truck on Diesel Place. If you can use a soldering iron the speedometer can be repaired for less than $25.

Would depend on how many miles it had. Sure sounds like it has lots of miles on it.
