How far south do you want to go? There's hundreds of miles of Texas beaches.

Personally I didn't like Padre Island but South Padre was OK. Private CG's are more expensive, but much better than State or National parks. Not much to do at them but walk the beach or fish.

You've got some of the best beaches right there in OC & Assateague.

Pensacola beach in FL is also one of the best.

I hope you are not going during all the college spring breaks. It can be very crowded. I agree with the previous poster in the FL panhandle. Destin has beautiful sugar white sand. If your heart is set on Texas, I would go to South Padre Island.

Galveston is picking up some but the beaches aren't anything to write home about.

Try Matagorda Bay. The RV sites are excellent. You can throw a rock from any of the sites into the Colorado River. If you turn around (and your arm is a little stronger) you can hit the Gulf of Mexico.

I order of my personal preference that has kid-friendly beaches. The first one is private and pricey but VERY nice:
Gulf Waters
Matagorda Bay Park
Quintana Beach Park
Mustang Island
Galveston County
There are many, many more. As others have said, Florida panhandle and Alabama have the nices gulf coast beaches and avoid spring break.

There are no 'good' beaches. Best bet is South Padre if you are set on Texas
