Never had a dually before and I have another tire pressure question. The tires are LT235/80R17E rated for 80PSI, the door post states the following. FRONT 70PSI, REAR 65PSI and the SPARE 80PSI. It has been my understanding with my other truck to be at max PSI for towing. Why does GMC show 65PSI?? What do you but in your tires when towing?

Truck is a 3500HD DRW and the Trailer is a 31ft fifth wheel, pin wgt about 2200lbs.

My 3/4 I run 65 front 65 rear for towing, empty is 65 front 40 rear. My dually is 65 front, 60 rear and drop the rears to 35 when empty.

We are running at the max when towing for GVWR. 80 lbs in rear tires with no problems on this truck or the 2001 3500 8.1 dually. hard to beat "no problems"
35 lbs solo for a dually seems very low.

Way too much pressure- your tires will wear prematurely and you gain nothing but a bumpier ride at 80 pounds.
I would drop the pressure down in the back to 60 for 2200 pounds and 65 in the front. (a little more in the front since you only have two tires and not six)

My trailer is a lot heavier from a pin weight standpoint and the above has served me well with all of my drw trucks. I typically get 40k out of a set of tires.

your tires at 80 lbs are good to over 10K lbs total. Reality is, most of us are at 7-8K on the rear, so 60-65 lbs should be good towing. Empty, you probably are like me, at around 3k-3500 lbs, so 40-50 lbs empty should also be plenty.

I put mine at what the truck calls for. When towing 65psi all around, no problems so far...

You have 4 tires to carry the weight. 65# is whats needed if the rear is at maz. load. You won't be near that. My door sticker says 65 also. Thats what I run with a 3000#+ camper on. 80# would be needed for 12k just on the rear.

The tires can carry more weight with more pressure. They call for 65psi in each of the 4 rear tires because that is all that is needed to carry the rear GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating) which is likely just over 9000#. If each tire is good for say 3000# when at 80 psi, that equals 12,000#, so 80 psi is not needed and just adds to ride harshness. Go with what the door sticker recommends.

I agree with the previous 5 answers. I run 60-65 towing and 45 empty on the rears. 65 front 100% of the time.
