Thanks for the trip report. These Sierra sites sure look different in the winter than in the summer.

Do you do anything special to heat/insulate your pop up on cold nites?

Hey hikerdmb, Great trip and pictures. I've never seen Rock Creek Lake frozen over, I bet it was surreal as well as fun skiing. We left SoCal many years ago because of the fight to get out of town, and the fight to get back in. Took us 5 hours to go 125 miles on 395 just north of Kramer Junction into Orange County, arg. Glad you still make it and post it. More, more.

Thanks for sharing....the pictures and trip review brought back memories of our trip out there in the summer of 2009. We did the whole length of 395, from Susanville south to Barstow. One of our favorite adventures was going over the Sierras via Sherman's Pass. I'm sure that road is pretty much snowed in this time of year. We got a bit disoriented in the Alabama Hills, but luckily the GPS was able to get us back to civilization. Wonderful, scenic area!!

Thanks! Your trip is very encouraging for DW and I. We can hardly wait for our TC to arrive, but in the meantime the winter weather has really taken its toll on us new to Alaska people.
Seeing you guys camp out in the snow, enjoying a fire, and skiing, really helps to boost our spirits.

Nice pic's and trip report.

Thank you!

Very cool trip. We bring our golden with us also. Jake just turned 11.

This is a picture of him in the Keys watching the sunset.
