It should take you just a few minutes to resize your hard drive partitions. No more complicated than dragging a few sliders. Here is an animation using the freeware EaseUS Partition Master 9.1 Home Edition:
First, click to highlight the D: partition.
Grab the left edge handle with your mouse, and slide to the right to reduce of the D: partition equal to the amount of free space you need for your C: partition.
Next, click to highlight the C: partition.
Grab the right edge handle, and move all the way to the right edge of your D: partition.
Click "Apply," then "Yes" in the confirmation popup.
Finally, click "OK."
You're done!

I only wish it were this easy. I have downloaded the program, installed and run it. When I click to resize partitions, I do not get the options shown, and cannot resize. I am down to 1.6 GB on the C drive, and have 125 BG unallocated in the E drive.
I have spent more than an hour, trying to either resize or merge these 2 drives, and also have tried creating another (F) drive from the E drive, and then merge that with C. I would think merging 2 drives should be as simple as marking everything in the E drive to now be part of the C drive. Program won't let me do it.
Here's a screen shot of what I see: [/img]

If it's unallocated space, it's not a partition, so you don't have to first resize it. Just grab the right edge of your C drive and drag it to the right until all the unallocated space is used up. Click Apply, and OK
A screen capture of your Easeus Partition Master screen would be helpful. Not necessary if you got it to work.
Here's a screen shot: (BTW, I don't need anything on the E drive, as it originally was created to serve as a system backup location, before I decided to backup to an external USB harddrive.
You're basically out of drive space! The problem is your E partition does not have enough available space, just 113MB. You need to add a second HD, either an internal or an external USB. Otherwise, upgrade your current primary HD to a larger size.

Why can't I just do away with the E drive, and make that space part of the C drive? (I also know there's some "hidden" unallocated and unused drive space that is not showing up here. I think it's either 50GB or 75. The "E" drive use to be larger than is showing, and I had used an earlier version of this program to try to take some of it away for the C drive. I ended up taking it away, but it disappeared, and now my drive space is showing smalled than the drive total drive actually is.
I'd like to just have a C drive, with everything on it, and backed up to an external. Can I do this?
I think the minimum partion size that can be made on that drive is 126 MB, one complete outside ring of drive platter sectors
that E partition cannot be made any smaller, if that is not the reserved system reinstall partition you can merge it with D, if it is the reserved partition there is nothing you can do, except delete/ move files
that drive is full
if there is any "unallocated" space that space could be added to drive C
but it must be in the correct physical spot on the drive platters
if the 'lost ' space is on the far end of the drive beyond partition E, then another partition created, then that partition used my moving the contents of E to the new, then merge the adjacent partitions

Yes, you can just delete the E partition, and expand that space into your C drive, but you're only gaining 0.113G of extra space. I use up more than that just reading Yahoo News every day.
Hidden partitions or unallocated space would still show up on the Easeus PM screen. What's the model no. of your HD? You can find out in Device Manager(Window Key+R, and type or copy and paste devmgmt.msc and click OK). Expand the Disk drives branch. Look at what's listed as your HD manufacturer/model.

Definitely concur on upgrading the primary drive - 75GB just isn't very big these days, as you've found out already. You should be able to find a freeware cloning utility to facilitate that. Of course, you'll first need an external drive to clone to. You probably need that anyway for backups.
Thanks for the help. Expanded Disk Drives shows as HTS541080G9SA00. This is an older Toshiba laptop, and the drive is the factory-installed drive. Toshiba model # A105S2141
