Hi to all the RV experts out there. I'm from Australia and travelling around your beautiful country in a fantastic RV that we (my wife & I) really love. Anyway in the last 24 hours I seem to have lost power to the plug that feeds the indicator lights etc for the tow car. It is the plug right at the back of the RV where you plug in the lead that then in turn plugs into the tow vehicle. I have a 12 volt tester and i do get one pin lighting up constantly, but when the indicators of the RV are on (they all work) I do not get any corresponding power to any of the pins .. I assume it may be a fuse, but I have no idea where to look ... I have found a couple of fuse boards front and rear, but there are no clear labels as to which fuse might go back to this plug ... Any suggestions? Thanks

You might want to contact Newmar and see if they can find the correct fuse BUT a blown fuse would shut down the plug totally not cause it to work intermittently. Easy thing would be to pull the plug out and make sure there's a good connection there. Check for corrosion too. How many volts are you getting on your tester?

The rear 7 way trailer plug has seperate fuses for that plug. On a Newmar, they have 2 places for that fuse block.
1. In the Left front outside storage in front of the LF tire
2. In one of the 2 right rear outside storage compartments.
3. The reason for seperate fuses is to keep you from losing all exterior lighting if you short out at the trailer tow plug
4. The BEST way to check is to use your 12 volt tester and turn the Igntion key ON and just test EACH fuse you find until you find the Dead ones. Doug

Yes I think a call or email to Newmar may be a good idea. On one of the pins i have a constant voltage (I only have a light bulb tester not a multimeter) .. but when the indicators are on, none of the other pins provide any voltage at all. Not sure why i have a constant voltage on one of the pins though. Maybe a quick trip to an auto-electrician will do the trick .. thanks

That is the "Charge" line for charging a tow vehicle battery.
pin 1- left turn
pin 2- right turn
pin 3- ground (negative)
pin 4- 12 volt positive all the time (charge line)
pin 5- Brake control hot wire to tow brakes
pin 6- clearance/running lights
pin 7- Aux No use pin and reverse lights if wanted

Besides contacting Newmar, also try the Yahoo Newmar Owners Group.
And, yes, Newmar fusing can be, uh, interesting to say the least.
Happy trails.

The fusing is NOT Newmar but Freightliner or Spartan whichever chassis he has. Doug

Thanks heaps for this info ... it all helps. Obviously i have a charge line active , but nothing else working ... I'll shoot an email off to the Newmar owners group. I believe this is a Spartan Chasis. I really appreciate all your help to date ... I've been driving with out the indicators working, but thankfully I'm towing a small Suzuki which means the RV lights are pretty visible, but I still naturally would like them fixed.
