I won't be going camping much this year. My grand daughter is staying in my camper until her husband gets back from Afganistan. He is coming home for R&R in a couple of weeks or so. I am so proud of him I could bust but I am an old school patriot even though I have never been in the military. When he finishes his deployment we plan to do as much camping as possible before he has to report to his home base. Ed

It ain't just camping and RVing. Just wait till you see the food prices in a few months. They need this high price fuel to grow and/or transport it too. Hold on to your sox, baby. They've got an inbound for ya'.

Interesting article yesterday talked about historical fuel prices. For the last 75+ years, on an inflation adjusted basis fuel prices have been consistently between $2.00 and $4.00/gallon. Factor in current fuel economy of vehicles in average mpg, vs 40 years ago and cost/mile probably not near its peak.
When we got our last truck and trailer I made sure we could easily afford to do all the traveling we wanted to (6-10K miles/year) with fuel cost of $8.00 gallon. If not we wouldn't have bought a trailer. No point it having an avocation if your worried about supporting it.
cost of fuel is near the bottom of my list of things of interest. Can't do much about it, rather address things I can change.
I remember $.30 gas, but minimum wage at that time was about $.75/hr. and the car I had would be lucky to get 12mpg in the city and 14 mpg on the highway.

Regular gas here is 4.03....going up average of .03 a day. The estimate here is 6.00 a gallon by July 4th. And here in the northeast most heat with fuel oil....currently 3.95 a gallon...with the average home consuming 1000 gallons a year. How long do you think the folks can keep this up before everything collapses. If they would stop changing the formula you would see the unemployment number is NOT going down. I had to take the trailer to Elkhart in October for repair...cost me 790.00 in fuel round trip....that would be over 1000.00 now
