Currently have DirectTV....Looking to switch over to Dish......I currently have a portable dish on a tripod that is labelled "DirectTV" and I just take the box from the house, set up the dish at the CG using the "signal meter" screen on the TV and good to go wherever I am........Takes 5 mins and it has worked great across the country....

If I switch to Dish, is the procedure the same?? Just take the box from the house and set it up?? Can I use the same dish or do I need one specifically for Dish?? I don't have HD at the house or the MH.....

Dish gets their programming from more than one sat so no it is not as easy as setting up an 18 inch dish as you can do with direct. You need an oval dish that sets the elevation, azmith and skew. then switch from one sat to the other. Not a detailed answer, but the best I can do. I have a friend that is considering changing from Dish to Direct because it is easier. Now if you want reception while moving and high defination etc, it get more complicated as far as the equipment , supplier etc.

WHY . . . Direct is easier to setup. Dish requires changing satellites when changing channels so you need to be aligned with all of them.

JMHO - stay with Direct easier to setup and use, more channels for the money.

I have Dish and Toyhauler has it's own receiver, while parked at home Dish is set up. It's always ready (have TV while loading, in case race is on). Costs $5 a month.
When I get out in the desert, most of the time only takes 10 minutes to zero in. 3 times in last 8 years took longer (too many beers?) and thought about the automatic cubes, but $600 buys alot of beer so haven't done it yet.

If you go with DISH you might want to look into the "tailgater". I have one and I sit it outside, move the handle anywhere toward the south and an internal device will find the satellites. Never had a problem locating satellites. The cost is about $350, weighs about 10 lbs. Little expensive but it works great.
