My wife told me yesterday that if we do any long distance traveling any more we should rent a motor home (class c 25-28 ft). The last I had heard we were going to buy a new camper this year. Any way a couple of questions.
1. Does anyone rent a class c diesel Motorhome? if so how much?
2. What does a decent diesel used Motorhome cost? Lets say a 2008 60K miles?

For Rentals: Click on the links below:
1. Road Bear RV
2. El Monte RV
3. Camping World RV Rentals
4. Cruise America RV Rentals
Those are the top four, listed in no particular order of preference.
As to you question about the diesel...you need to narrow it down a bit. Size, amenities, quality, etc. Below is probably your best bet to simply view all types of diesels from the comfort of your easy chair. Scroll through their site as they also post their sales, which give you a real time handle on the actual value of the coaches. They are a consignment outfit but do own some of the coaches they sell. I would check Ebay, RV Trader, RVT.COM and other sites to get an idea of what is available and the approximate prices.

If PPL posts the sale price of consigned RVs they sell it is not clear to me how you get that info from their website. All I see is asking prices for unsold vehicles, including any reduction from original asking price.

Diesel C's, other than on the pricey Sprinter chassis or trucks like the Kodiak, are pretty uncommon. Most folks don't like having that much noise right by their knee in a typical van cutaway, and the extra weight cuts into CCC.
The Tiger may be smaller than you want, but it can be had on a Chevy, Ford, or Dodge 1-ton pickup chassis in diesel or gas & 2WD or 4x4. Hard to find used ones, tho', and pricey.

I agree. A gasoline engine right in front of you in a poorly-insulated Class C makes plenty enough noise on its own -- with a diesel you'd be lucky to be able to hear yourself think!....

I will assume that, like in question no. 1, that you are asking about a class C.
There are very few types of diesel C's made in 2008. The only ones I know of have already been mentioned - the MB Sprinter and the Tiger. There most common ones out there are the Sprinters, so it will be easier to find one of those. This is not counting the large "super" C's.
In 2010, we purchased a 2008 Winnebago View on the Sprinter chassis that had just under 8k miles, and paid $50k. I would imagine that an '08 with 60k miles on it should be closer to $40k than $50k.

Sounds like you have a very smart wife! In this (or anytime) economy, renting and trying it out before you actually buy makes sense.

Hi Barry:
I notice you live in Wisconsin. I will give you the web address for Brambillas RV in Shakopee MN. They are right across the highway from Valley Fair. I live across the Minnesota River in Bloomington from them. They have been there since around 1973.
They have an excellent site for viewing their RV's. They do rent out Class C and Class A motorhomes (gas and diesel) ranging from around $1400./week to #3400./week.
You can check for actual prices (sales or rentals), pictures of each rental, etc. at the site. I have dealt with them since around 1984. They serviced my 1994 HiLo, 1992 Award Classic, both purchased elseware, and my current 2003 Fleetwood Jamboree 29V traded in for in 2006. They took my Award and 2002 Dodge1500 pickup at the time.
Type in "www.brambillas.com" to reach the site. I am assuming you do not live all that far from here.
