We had our RV Port (full sides) built to be 16' wide X 42' long X 15' tall in the center...not the walls but the total height in the middle, I think the walls are 13.5'. We can open all three slides and walk around the motor home with them open. We can easily open the storage compartments, too. My husband can also get on top of the Damon when it's in the RV port... notice I said my husband, I don't do roofs. We would have liked to go a bit longer since our motor home is 39.5 but we worked with the configuration of our driveway and 42' is as long as we could go without blocking too much of our primary garage access.
We also had our electrician hook us up with 50 amp service, a 110 outlet, as well as five lights, two on each side at the top of the wall and one in the middle of (closed in) back. We are VERY pleased.
Custom built, anchored to our existing pavement on one side, poles anchored into the ground with concrete on the other and we paid right at $5,000.00 including electrical.
We had it done in December and now the only thing we have to finish it up, is on one side we need to put some gravel & maybe quickcrete down to cover the grass. We couldn't build it completely on the pavement since it would block our second garage too much and not allow for ease of access when getting the boat in and out. Of course, that is a priority for my DH.
Here are two pictures taken shortly after it was finished:

Wish I could. I wanted to build a carport that had the same roof line as the house. Alas the CCRs do not allow.

I got mine installed 12 x 12 x 30 for 1800 from carports.com I also have the sides all the way to the ground. In the winter I enclose the ends with tarps. To mout to the ground they put hurricane straps then I filled in with size 58 gravil and compacted it like concreate. To date MH doesnt even leave a make from sitting on it.

If you have slides on both sides, you should spend the difference for an 18' wide one. 12' tall is at the eves so your height should be fine.
Mine is 13' at the eves and 40'X 18'. Installed price with building permit was $3,861.75

Give careful consideration to any possible snow loads in your area. Wet snow is VERY heavy. I also recommend the anchors used for mobile homes to keep it secure in high winds.
This is the firm that built ours in one day. I would use them again if we ever moved.

I'm thinking about going with this one from Home Depot since I can charge it at no interest: Click here to see it.
It shows the dimensions of 14' wide x 38' long x 12' sides. I'm not 100% sure the 12' sides will work for me. I'm wondering if can create some type of foundation under it and anchor it to the ground after that. I would like to be able to have the slides out while it's in the carport.
What do you think?
Brandon
I have a VersaTube RV port that is similar in size, it is not wide enough to open slides. But you might check VersaTube for the different sizes they offer. http://www.versatube.com/metal-buildings........ers/metal-carport-applications/rv-covers
I did not pour a slab when I erected mine choosing to use a gravel floor. If I had it to do over I would pour a concrete floor reenforced with rebar to support a MH. I did run the sides down to the ground and use silver tarps for enclosing the ends, that provides circulation.

bccsrc wrote: Thanks for the info. I'm thinking the one I was looking at is pretty expensive considering I could have someone come out and install it for the same price and quite possibly be larger. I have thought about the vinyl type but didn't know how they would hold up after 5 years or so.
I think metal would be the way to go. I do like the thought of being able to move the carport down the road.... like to another place on my property. I will check out the links on this thread and see what I can find.
I got a quote from www.getcarports.com for a 14x36x12 delivered and installed for $3827.00. Is that a fair price? It might need to be wider?
Thanks,
Brandon
If you have the space... go as wide as possible. Cost is the same from 12- 20'.

American Carports will come to your location and install it on concrete or dirt with mobile home anchors for about that price. No work for you.
Mine is 20 wide and 36 long on 11 foot legs it is 12 foot at the sides and 13.5 peak. They do Oregon and come out of Chico, Ca.
That includes sides to the ground. You can close in the back too for more money.
When we lived in Ca. We had the tarp type cover but in the Ca. sun we could only get 2 years out of the heavy duty tarp before it shredded apart.

I have another Vinyl car port I use for my Suburban and the vinyl top needs replaced about every two years. Another problem with them is strong winds, to anchor securely to the ground. In my area heavy snow is also a problem as you have to scrape it off or the weight will cause it to collapse.
