Shawnee State Park, in the hill country of Southern Ohio, still has 30 and 60 day slots available for work campers and camper hosts. We offer free camping in a modern campground in exchange for 20 hours per week of light volunteer work. Give us a call to set up and on-site or phone interview. 740-858-6652

This is a great opportunity for someone. This is a beautiful park next to the Ohio River. If we were not already camp hosting at Paint Creek State Park we would be there in a heart beat. Ohio treats their camphost great. Every year in September, the state parks department selects one park to host a campout for all the state park camphost. This year we at Paint Creek are hosting the state wide campout and it is going to be great. Looking forward to meeting the host from all the othe parks. Ohio has some of the nicest State Parks you will find anywhere.

Just a FYI.. I was in the area this week and drove out to this park. I spoke with the ranger on duty and he had me drive thru and check things out. I think it was site 32 & 78 that were the host sites, nothing special and nothing bad. I personally liked 78 better but the stopper for me was my Verizon phone would not get service and I am sure it would be the same with my air card, a booster might work just not sure. Anyways there is a small lake in front and another lil bigger lake up above, beautiful area and a short drive into town.

I used to go to Shawnee 3-4 times a year when I had horses to trail ride. It is my second favorite state park, right behind the IMO most beautiful of Ohio's parks, Hocking Hills. Some great ridges with fantastic views and beautiful forest. Really nice park and if I was retired and Workamping, I'd be there in a minute. I'm just a 50 year old lurking in this forum learning as much as I can in preparation for my turn to be a Workamper like you all!

I betcha a call or email to the op will get you some answers. The ranger on duty I talk to was very helpful and friendly but I did not inquire about the duties since the park was something I was no longer interested in after the few issues with cell service etc.

Wife and I hosted there last August. Very nice park, absolutely excellent staff.Light work is just that. We spent our time cleaning sites and visiting with campers. Two things we really enjoyed were the nature center and hosting on movie nights. The park manager is one of the easiest to get along with that we have ever worked with. If you like nature you will love the nature center and the naturalist. There is full time staff to clean restrooms and facilities. There is WiFi at the Marina about 6 miles away. Beautiful place.

My wife ad I are hosting there this summer and were told there is no cell service in the campground. My guess is you wouldn't have to go far to get coverage.
