I'm a newbie to this forum. I've towed a saturn behind my old RV, but it (the saturn) crapped out (cracked head). I'm looking for a new toad (don't want another saturn). Looking for a 2004/5 corolla or Nissan Frontier with a manual transmission. Does anyone tow that type of vehicle. I want to know what's save to tow all wheels down. Saw a list online that included corolla's, but some salesman said that you can't tow ANY toyota products. (Then he tried to sell me a saturn).
Any imput would be appreciated.

If you don't mind shifting look into Subaru's. All manual transmission Subaru's are towable 4 down with no limits. The full time all wheel drive is excellent. All Subaru's are all wheel drive. JM2¢W

Well, not quite true. The Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain are on the Saturn Vue platform. Just as the GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave and Chevy Traverse are on the Saturn Outlook platform. All of them are towable four down. We have a 2011 Equinox and love it. By the way Saturn was owned my GM the whole car was GM. Is that supposed to mean GM engines are no good?

I towed a 2003 Toyota Matrix for 50K miles. If it has a manual transmission, no problem. If it can be towed, it is listed in the owner's manual. Now we tow a 2011 Scion TC (Manual transmission)

If it were me I would get an 04 Mustang with a 5 speed manual. Only year Ford authorized it to be towed 4 down from the factory with no modification. We have towed our 04 Mustang V-6 Convertible ~ 30,000 trouble free miles and driven it another 50,000.

Tim, welcome to the forum...Motorhome magazine has put out a dinghy guide for many years. I've included a link below. Click on that link, then click on the year of the vehicle you're looking for, and check out the information they provide....obviously you're not looking new so I would encourage you to check out the Chevrolet HHR. We are on our second one now and have had zero problems with ours. They can be towed four down with no modifications and the rear seat folds down so you can carry all sorts of goodies back there. It also seats five comfortably. Reasonably priced and gets good gas mileage...good luck in your search...Dennis

t6tpoli,
I was just wondering why it must be a stick tranny? It's no biggie to me, you can tow what you desire. But, the Honda CRV of just about any year and model, can be towed flat towed with no issues what so ever. There are many toads out there but, the CRV seems to be fairly dominant.
We looked at and drove a Chevy Equinox and it was a very nice car/suv and seemed to be very quiet and a fair amount of power based on the weight of the car and engine size. It's also towable four down. We almost went that way but, I liked the resale value and the ergonomics of the CRV better so, we went that way with a brand new '11 CRV EX-L.
I set the new girl up with a base plate from etrailer.com and that was a piece of cake. I did the wiring myself and all the lights on the toad work just like you were driving it. So, just an idea.

The new CRV may be even better. Lots more electronic equipment, including blue tooth and a new 6 speed automatic. But, not sure if with the new tranny is towable four down. Still, I'm sure Honda wouldn't throw away that segment of the market. Its a good tow and so is the Equinox. Scott, I hope you installed diodes in your wiring so you don't get bleed back to the towing vehicle. I have a friend that didn't and the tow vehicle brake lights go off when the the toad brake lights go on. I'm thinking that could cause problems later on. Also, I helped the same guy put a blue ox baseplate on his 2012 CRV and it was no piece of cake. Had to take off all the plastic on the front end and trim part of the frame. Also had to take off the left front wheel to get at everything that needed to be trimed and install the baseplate. It took the two of us about 6 hours to get it done. So, I took my equinox to a shop that said they do about 50 of them a year. It still took them 4 hrs. to do mine.
