What I find interesting is the price of oil in 08 was roughly $145.00 a barrel, and the average price of gas was 4.13 gal. Today oil is $104.00 and gas is on average around $3.80. So with the cost of oil roughly 2/3's what it was in 08, why aren't gas prices following. And who is gouging who? The states with their taxes, gov taxes, refinery prices? What gives besides my wallet?

If you go back and look at the excuses for high gas prices they claimed the price of oil was the cause. After the price of oil went down they claimed it was refining capacity. I will go to my death bed believing they are all liars, crooks and theives.

There are a lot of games being played. There are stations here charging $4 per gallon if you pay cash and $5.00 for the same gallon if you charge! There is no control. In addition state taxes are close to 25% of the price per gallon.
The President says that we are drilling and have increased oil production in the US - that is great BUT that oil is being exported to other countries and little is seen here. It is time as one member of Congress has proposed that all oil originating in the US must remain in the US.
Long term plans are no solution to this crisis- immediate solutions are mandated by the circumstances. Putting RV travel aside, when people cannot earn enough at work to buy the gas needed to get to their jobs, what happens then?

You don't have to buy a $40k hybrid. You can buy a loaded out VW Jetta TDI diesel for about $26k out the door and get in the mid 40's mpg. As far as camping, yes we will go, maybe even more but our trips will be closer to home. I have researched and was shocked to find so many campgrounds with in an hour from the house. We used to drive three to five hours now we have tons of options that are 30-90 minutes. We will go on a several hour trip once a year but plan to stay a week so its worth it.

Trouble is, we don't leave our house just to camp, we leave it to see the Grand Canyon, southwest mines and ghost towns, etc.
Just going to a spot to live in our camper doesn't appeal to us--gotta have a reason to be "confined" for a couple of months . We are truly fortunate to live in a tourist area where many summer and winter sports are available.
Traveling west at this point with $5/gallon fuel this summer is impractical. Fixed income people are getting screwed royally.

I work in the industry and all I will say is do your own research, instead of believing a person who has a penchant for false information. More than 65% of all applications for fossil energy acquisition in the US are turned down by this administration. Yes you read it right, less than 35% of all applications are approved and many of those are in areas that are doing exploration, NOT a active production well. The current administration is doing all it can to stop drilling for fossil fuels, period.

You could also pick up a used Honda civic hybrid for cheap. Heres one for 16,995. http://salem.craigslist.org/ctd/2903960409.htmlI'm sure you could find something local as well. 40,000-17,000 = 23,000. Thats a lot of gas right there. As to high gas prices, yes they are bothering us as well. We are lucky to live in Oregon where there are tons of CG near lakes and rivers. So if prices are still around 4.00 this summer we will be sticking close to home. If they happen to fall to 3.50 or better we may venture somewhere further away latter in Sept.

I think it's just hilarious that people who are concerned about fuel prices bought gas guzzling rigs after the wake up call of regular gas selling for $4+ in 2008. If $7 gas is going to be a problem, sell your guzzler now.
