For being in direct competition and one that stands to lose business, I'm curious what this "unwise" decision is.. ? Frankly I’m surprised that a moderator hasn’t edited your comments out as they clearly affect your business.
Maybe because he purchases advertising in the GS magazine....

Have had GS Road Side Emergency Service for 7 years. Have used it 4 times. Best money ever spent. 3 of the uses were for flat tires (1 on our first Travel Trailer, 1 on our truck and one "TODAY" on our Toad) and 1 was for an accidental lockout on our Toad "ONE WEEK AGO"

Every call has been excellent. Help arrived within one hour on all calls. The service today, was much more than just changing a tire as our Mazda Miata does not carry a spare. They sent a tow truck to tow the car from the RV Park. They paid for the first mile of tow and we paid $4.00 per mile for the other 5. We would not have had to pay anything except we had to go to Discount Tire as our tires were only 6 months old and we had full replacement on the tire.

What we have determined is that every flat has been a screw or nail. I sure wish construction trucks would better protect the loose screws and nails.

Like I said 2 uses in the first 7 years and then 2 times in a week. WORTH EVERY DIME FOR EASE OF USE AND PEACE OF MIND.

I have been a member of Good Sam for over 7 years and never used any of their services until last week. And still have not used them.
Let’s just say I am not a happy camper, I called them for a leaky valve stem (flat inner dual 22.5) they quoted me $165.00 for service. I went out on my own and had Commercial tire service come out and fix it for $100.00 total including new stem. Correct me if I’m wrong but where is the roadside service when you have to fork over $65.00 more than retail.

Emergency assistance ~ don't even think about travelling without it! Good Sam, CoachNet, AAA, whoever you choose; they all offer about the same safety net for about the same price. RV's are too expensive to tow and too hard to repair on the road without it.

We have never had to pay anything but the tip for any service unless we ask for something above and beyond (like today towing 6 miles per our request instead of the 1 mile that the tire could have been repaired)

Not sure why GS charged you anything. You should question why?

This thread might have been a lot less confusing if the OP had come back to clear up whether he was asking about Good Sam's Emergency Assistance Plus plan or their Roadside Assistance plan.

Good Sam does indeed have a lot of junk mail offerings...they have many so called "emergency" plans as previous posters mentioned.

Personally--I'd go with Coach-Net.

rondeb,

Sherry and I just returned from "Miatas in Moab V". MIMV was a Moab, UT, gathering of about 100 Miatas and 175 enthusiasts from all over the US and Canada.

We also have GS Roadside Assistance, but knowing that much of Utah and Arizona is out of cell phone service range, before we left, I bought a spare tire from a Mazda RX7 ($50 locally).

Here it is tucked away in the trunk of our NC.

Although it does take up trunk space (that we really didn't need) and we didn't use it, it WAS comforting knowing that it was there.
