Doing some browsing yesterday and in this year's March Madness NCAA Basketball Tournment, the State of Ohio has Four (4) teams in the Sweet 16. They are: Cincinnati, Ohio University, Ohio State University, & Xavier University. Believe it or not, some folks get Ohio U. and Ohio State confused! OSU's next opponent is the U. of Cincinnati. Bags.
I'm conflicted here. I'm a UC grad,so I'll be rooting for them, but they're playing Ohio State, who I would normally root for. And UC plays Xavier every year in the "Cross Town Shootout". Going to that game is like going to a fight and watching a basketball game break out. Ohio U. usually doesn't make it to the show, let alone the sweet sixteen, but Michigan and Temple couldn't get out of the starting gate this year.
The tournament itself is more of a dog and pony show than a way to find the best BB team for the season. I'd rather see them start with 16 teams and play best two out of three, but its never been about finding the best team. Its always been about how to make the most money off of student athletes that play for free. JMHO.
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.
Jim, in all intents and purpose, student athletes at big time Universities are Professional Athletes that don't get paid till they are drafted into the NBA, NFL, or MLB! And that is why they leave college before getting their college degrees. I expect OSU's Jared Sullinger (Soph) & Dushaun Thomas (soph) to go into the next NBA draft! However, I do have the utmost respect for those that wait till they have that sheepskin/degree. Bags.
