I just "dewinterized" my plumbing system and my water pump won't prime. It has done this before after sitting a while with out use but has eventually primed and worked, but not this time. I just get a trickle of water out of all faucets hot and cold and the pump keeps running when I shut the faucets off. The only way to get the pump to shut off is to turn the switch off.
Any thoughts?

Are you seeing air bubbles in the water line? My guess there is an air leak upstream of the pump so it won't pressurize. Good luck.

This happened to me once; I forgot to close all the drain valves in the water lines and tank.

This happened to me once, the pickup hose was leaking air where it mounted to the pump intake. Tightened the hose clamp.

Could the pump be filling the hot water heater? That's going to take some time.

If the vavles are right...you might put one of those adapters on your city water fill --- the ones used to apply pressurized air to blowout the lines --- apply a little head pressure to the fresh water tank and see if that helps prime the pump.

Tom,

Most likely the valves in the pump are old enough and won't seal when dry. At about 10 years of age, my pump wouldn't prime. I replaced the seal kit and all is well. Less than $20.00 for parts.

Is there a valve between the pump and the water tank. There is on mine and I forgot to open it a couple of years ago. Just could not figure out the problem. When I finally realized the problem......well lets just leave it at that.

City water fill valve may have been left open and should be closed.

That may be the case.
I think it's "fixed". Now it is working like it should and I'm not sure why. Maybe the seals resealed from being exposed to water for 12 hours. I don't have any hair and its a good thing because otherwise I would of pull it out.
