Thank you...sometimes I feel like the only one who's not a sheep, er, brand loyalist, on this forum!
I just love the generalizations and opinions standing as fact that fly around..."you only see brand x doing this 'cause it's the only reliable one"..."if you need a HD truck buy brand y, period"..."I can outrun the others in my brand z truck"...and on and on...
Thankfully, 75-80% of the info on this forum is outstanding; more than makes up for the 20-25% of purchase justification, brand stroking, and misinformation.

I went from a 2010 Ram 3500 CC dually to a 2011 F350 SRW CC. So I went just the opposite of what you are wanting to do. You will notice a little less power, but like I tell my friends.....towing with the Cummins was dreamy. I also liked the laramie interior over the Lariat. You will notice a lot less fuel mileage. The Ram dually is thirsty. Overall, I averaged around 14.5 MPG. Thats loaded, empty, and city all mixed into one average. I get much better with the Ford. Had Ram had higher ratings in the single rear wheel trucks, I would still be towing with one. I liked the Ram transmission and exhaust brake better as well.

It's done. Drove home my (new to me) 2010 RAM 3500 Dually tonight (12K miles).
I think I did well on the deal....basically an even swap for my Ford. So far I am very impressed with the truck. It seems very refined and smooth. I like the transmission over the Ford, as well as the interior.
Can't wait to hitch up to the toy hauler and see what this Cummins will do!
thanks all for the comments and opinions....very helpful.
..Good choice, as Rick stated, let us know what you think about your towing experience with the truck, especially going from a SRW to a Dually, let us know your opinion on the difference. Enjoy.

Have you had an opportunity to tow with the srw yet? If so I would be interested in hearing whether you can notice any difference in stability? What about difference in traction?
Yes, I have towed many times with the SRW Ford now. Honestly, no I do not notice any more/less stability at all. Perhaps I am not towing heavy enough to notice? Not sure. My TT is a bumper pull that usually weighs in around 10,600 fully loaded. Then I put a deck in the box with two loaded 4x4 ATV's on. Even with that much weight up high, I don't notice a difference. Traction has not been an issue loaded. I do have better unloaded traction off road with the SRW however. I don't regret getting rid of my dually in the fact of just getting rid of the extra tires. I do however wish that Ram would have had high enough payloads to stay in the Ram line up rather than having to move to the Ford. Like I mentioned earlier, there are many things I like more about the Ram. Interior, transmission, exhaust brake, Cummins, ride quality, looks, etc. But I am not really knocking my Ford, its been a great truck.
I've towed both TT and 5er with Dually and SRW trucks.....you notice "stability" MORE when towing a 5er with a Dually versus a SRW truck....I couldn't tell that much difference towing with the DRW or the SRW truck when towing a TT...I DID notice a difference in towing a 37' 5er with a SRW versus a DRW truck....the towing was far more "stable" when driving on secondary and even Interstates where there are a lot of uphill and down hill curvy roads, such as I tow on in WV, TN, NC, SC and Va...once more....I really couldn't tell any difference either when towing a Travel Trailer with a SRW or a Dually, BUT when I have a 5th. wheel sitting in the bed of my truck and hovering over the bed of my truck while towing on curvy roads, the wider stance of the dually, ie, 4 wheels and tires...I get a more "stable" ride with the dually than a SRW truck...don't know if I can explain it any more simpler then that.....
I don't recollect saying that a Dually would be superior to a SRW truck when towing a TT......but, I'll beg to differ when towing a longer heavier 5er, as most of those in here who have towed 5er's with both SRW and DRW trucks have already attested to....the towing experience is more stable with the dually...don't recollect talking about traction, though I've owned both SRW and DRW and towed and driven in some pretty heavy snows and have yet to not be able to go when I had to....how did "traction" figure in all of a sudden, or for that matter, "stability" towing a Travel Trailer????
The ORIGINAL POST was a person going from a SRW to DRW towing a 5th. wheel...not a TT.
To the above op.. so your telling me the Ford 1 ton SRW truck has more payload than my Dually??? Sorry to bust your bubble, but having done all the math and the weights, if this were the case, I'd be towing my 5er with one of the Ford 1 ton SRW trucks,,,but, though the payload has went up along with the Chevy's....it still isn't as high as the Dodge one ton Dually....at least 2010 and up, I know, because I've done the math and the weights...I'd take a SRW truck in a heartbeat....stability or not IF the 1 ton SRW trucks NOW could handle the payload of a heavier 5er....guess I could fudge the numbers and make myself believe otherwise, but I tend to err to the side of common sense and safety....can't help it...
