Could I use my rice cooker in the microwave to cook steel cut oats? Just a thought. I do not have a pressure cooker.

Yes you can make a bunch to take.

Stirring the oats in very small amount of oil prevents spewing into vent and I have done it without oil and had on problems.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spread 1 cup steel oats on cookie sheet, bake for 10 min. Shake pan a couple times for even cooking and to make sure they do not burn. I do 4 cups at a time and store in quart jar.

I make two servings of oatmeal, using 1/2 cup toasted oats.

1/2 cup toasted oats
1-3/4 cups water
1/2 tsp. coconut oil

optional:
1/2 of 3 inch stick of cinnamon
a scraping of fresh nutmeg

Melt coconut oil in bottom of pan, stir in oats, add water, bring to pressure on high heat, once under pressure, immediately turn heat to lowest setting that maintains pressure, cook for 6 minutes under pressure, remove from heat and allow to release pressure naturally.

Top as desired. I like banana, toasted walnuts, and maple syrup.

Pressure Cooker Steel Cut Oats

1/2 cup Steel Cut Oats
2 cups water
Dash of salt

Combine ingredients in pressure cooker pot, select high pressure and set 10 minutes cook time. (It took the pressure cooker 10 minutes to come up to pressure and 20 minutes for a natural pressure release after the cook time, for a total prep time of 40 minutes. A quick release is not recommended with grains.)

Top with milk, fresh or dried fruit, chopped nuts or granola, and your favorite sweetener – brown or white sugar, maple syrup, or agave syrup. This time I chose dried blueberries, strawberries, granola and brown sugar.

2 – 3 servings

I like oatmeal also, but not keen on the instant. I use them in an emergency, but that's it.
I like either thick rolled or steel cut because you can feel you're eating oats. I cook the steel cut by putting them in a vacuum bottle, 1/4 C oats to 3/4 C boiling water the night before and they are done in the morning. The thick rolled I use the same ratio but cook stove top.
I add dried apple pieces, cranberries or raisins and suger, depending on my mood.

Gotta have the raisins stirred in when the oatmeal is done cooking. Yum!

I make steel cut oats only I use natural pressed apple juice instead of water 4 to 1 ratio and slow boil for 1/2 hr. I make enough for all week after it cools I put it in an air tight bowl and keep in fridge take out and microwave with white raisins, dried cranberries and pineapple or mango.

If it is food it makes a poor wall paper paste.
If it's wall paper paste it makes poor food.
The few times I tried to eat it I kept trying to find some flavor in it.
A ton of cinnamon, or twice as much strawberries and a cup full of sugar and it can be gotten down.
Grits now that's food. Just add a little saltm a little bacon, country ham and hummmm good eats.

Of course I meant this in a light hearted way. Rest of the family eat it and I might but it really shoots up my glucose levels.
