Good afternoon!

I sent pictures of my roof to the RV service guy that has been helping me and he says that my roof is probably the original one and that is has maybe been repaired because it looks original from the pictures but that they didn't put seams in the rubber roofs (there are four seams equally distanced along the top). He said that it has surpassed it's use and that it will probably need to be replaced (new membrane) and that it is usually $100 a foot. I asked if I could use the Rubber Roof and he said that product doesn't work and it just flakes off. I'm just curious what everyone thinks about this. I'm not going to replace the membrane since that's almost the same price as what I paid for the RV to begin with.

Thanks,
Samantha

He is correct about one thing. No manufacturer that I am aware of installs a rubber roof with seams. There is no reason not to appy rubber roof, many have done so successfuly. Just be sure to use a product compatible with the roofing material. Probably EPDM.

Well that's why I sent him the pictures to see if he would be able to tell me what type of roof it is. I can't seem to figure it out because I thought it was one thing because of this but then there were seams. Or that but then it was soft...

So I'm not sure why there are seams but it does feel soft on the top but then there is a hard substance under (wood or metal). So then I tried to figure out if it was the TPO roof since I read that Rubber Roof isn't compatable with that type but I can't tell if it's TPO or not.

What a mess.

Thanks,
Samantha

Liquid rubber roof is compatible with TPO or EPDM roofing. Dicor makes a rubber roof coating that will work also.
Stay away from anything that has petrolium distillates.

Sam,

Could we see your pictures? You'd have to upload them to a webpage. Either a photo-dedicated site like flickR or PhotoBucket, or really any webpage that you have permission for.

Re-Size to "Small" then use the Advanced Post Form (link just above this Quick Reply window) to link to your pix using their "properties" from the page they're posted on.

What is the Make/Year/Model of your coach?

And above all, WELCOME!

Okay hopefully this works.

Here are some pics of the roof. They aren't great and I can certainly get more.

It is a 1990 Class C 28 foot Coachman Catalina.

It looks to be in very good shape. Personally I would go with one of the rubber roof coatings.

Your first post reads like you RV service guy is trying to steer you away from any DIY solution - because if you do it yourself, he makes no money from you.

Yeah I was surprised that he sorta suggested away from the DIY. I've had him do work on it already and get my parts from him but I have no intention of having anyone else do something my boyfriend and I can do because it's just too expensive. I called the company that makes Liquid Roof and since I don't know if it is a TPO roof they suggested I call Dicor. So I did and Dicor has a product that can be used on either type of rubber roof. So I'm going to get the Dicor brand coating product. Nice because I found it on super sale on a site so it's like half of the price of the other stuff. Woo hoo! They told me that with the coating it should get my roof at least 5 years which is perfect. The RV stays under a cover so it doesn't have sun beating on it or rain sitting on it. So maybe I can stretch it even more.

While I'm coating and redoing around the vents and stuff I thought I might need to do around the windows too so I'll be looking into those products this weekend.

Thanks for all of the help everyone!

Your roof looks to be in great shape to me too though the seam thing is really unusual. If your having problems with the seam then I would just cover it in a wide swath with Eternabond tape and inspect around vents etc.
