The problem with lists like this is who is to decide what's the criteria to be used? For example the number 1 place on the list said it gets 141 inches of snow a year. No way is that number 1 for me. In my criteria snow is for going on vacation to visit, but not for living in. For me the number 1 think I would look at is climate. I want a place that has a year round mild climate and doesn't have tornado or hurricane problems. California is about the only place that meets my criteria. So although there are other issues, that would be my criteria and I didn't see a single place in California on the list. How many people would not want to retire to Dana Point or Oceanside or San Diego or Malibu? The only problem being most couldn't afford those places, but they would be at the top of my list.

I did not make it through the whole 25, but looks like us Northerners must head south of the border for retirement......Oh, wait ...... most of us do for the cold parts of the year.

Climate is just one minuscule part of the formula......Who wants to pay the CA taxes or endure the political climate there. To me, 141" of snow is much more palatable than the few benefits that CA may offer......

I already live in one of those cities in Florida. Every Winter when the snow birds come south, we take off to head out West into the mountains and snow. I guess retirement is where you want it to be.
