Today I was washing our TT for our trip this weekend. I had both doors open as I was doing my thing around the trailer. As I walked past the bathroom screen door I saw a pair of legs dangling off the toilet. It was my three year old son. I looked in there and said, son, what are you doing? "Going poop daddy." Oh boy, so the trailer has been officially "broken in". Dear son has the honors.

The black tank didn't have much water in it if any so I filled it about 3/4 of the way with a water hose. Tomorrow I plan to spill some ice cubes in there to have them slosh around on our way to our campsite. My question is this, should I drop one of them packets into the tank that help with the smell and help disolve the waste? Or would I be fine leaving just the water and ice cubes on our way to the campsite tomorrow and dumping right when we get there? Best Practice advice much appreciated.

Do the ice cubes need to be melted or will they flow out easily?

You are WAY over thinking this thing!

It's one poop! In what? At least a 30 gallon tank? Since you've already put more than enough water in the tank, leave it at that and dump it when you get to the camp site.. No need to worry about ice or chemicals at this point..

IMO, you would have been fine with about 5 gallons of water and put some chemical in the tank. Go to the site and leave it until you naturally fill up the tank.. Then dump it..

You only need to do the ice trick if you had a dried mound of poo in the tank for some reason..

Enjoy!

Mitch

Consider The Geo Method for your holding tanks.
Many RVers use only water and no chemicals in their tanks.

HAHA.. yeah.. I can't tell you how often I have found a similar thing. You'll look back on this thread in a couple months and think "What was I thinking?" You will soon accept that you'll never have a completely clean or empty black tank ever again.. NEVER.. Ever. It's done now much like that first scratch on a new truck, you knew it was going to happen sooner or later. It's time to move forward, it gets easier from here..

I chose this method and enjoy not smelling the chemicals. The most I ever smell is laundry detergent.

If that is going to be your response to someone USING the toilet you're in for a whole lot of work. ALWAYS keep a couple of gallons of water in the tank, NEVER dump it until it's nearly full and use the chemical of your choice (one is as good as any other) and save yourself a lot of concern. Thay're MADE to be used If your system is working properly there should be NO odor from the black tank whether you use chemicals or not. The chemical can assist in breaking down the solids but I've never smelled ANY that would be suitable to smell in my bathroom
Good luck / Skip

Takes me back to when we got our last TT. 3 yr old grandaughter was over and I showed her the inside. After playing in the yard for a while she said, "I have to go potty Papa". OK , I said and took her hand and started walking toward the house. "No", she said. "In there", while pointing to the trailer. I let her of course.
