The factory camper/trailer mirrors on the 90's Dodge trucks were the old 3-point stainless tube mounts with fold and turn 6x9 stainless mirror heads on 90* tube elbows. Very similar to what came stock on my '97 F350.

Here are the stock camper/trailer mirrors on a '97 Dodge 3500 truck. Nearly the same as my stock Ford mirrors.

I installed Kool-Vu factory replacement mirrors for a 2005 Ram on my '98. They're a direct fit replacement.
before:

after:

You can browse my photobucket site for the installation if you like. I thought I had a better pic of them flipped up, but apparently I missed that. However, it's just like the shots posted a few entries up. If you look closely in the 3rd pic, you can sort of see the driver's mirror extended (flipped).
Edit - I got bored and started organizing my photobucket pics before realizing I just broke links all over the place. Browse to this photobucket album for all the mirror photos

I have the factory dumbo mirrors like you have shown, they work well, perhaps a little bouncy on rough road. The integrated convex mirror is nice. Takes alot more adjusting than the Ford mirrors that slide in and out when you switch from the non towing position to the towing position, perhaps the power adjust feature might be nice.
I really like the Chevy power mirrors (likely other manufacturers have them now) that power striaght in and out, I think Camping World has mirrors like that for sale, there expensive and not really neccisary.

Those look a lot like 3rd gen mirror, 2003 and up. They work very well, and are steady in the tow position. (Ie they do not look like they were smeared with Vaseline while going down the road)

They are availablle in power & none power?
I do have the factory power option for the mirrors..
But should I spend the extra money?

Go to ebay, type in " 97 dodge tow mirrors" scroll down to the ones that say rokucreaton in red. Take a look at the pictures.... this style has a pigtail and small base. The ones you are showing are 03 or newer with a large base and the small white plug attached to the base. This can be tricky since you have an 97 3500. You have to be very specific. Again you would need the pigtail style with a small base...they are very specific as to what fits what years and what models. They change for 98-02 and again and again.. Hope this helps...These mirrors are nice and those snap on ones...don't do it!
