I've downsized my possessions quite a bit in preparation for fulltiming. However, I like to read alot and collect books. Since storage space is at a premium, I wondered how others manage to store/organize their book collections in their RVs. Has anyone come up with some bookshelves in the RV that won't spill books everywhere when towing? Please post your suggestions and pictures. Thanks!

I got a Kindle. Love it! There are many books that are free, that you can borrow from the library and that are only 99 cents.
I have seen people put shelves above the door with a bar in front to keep the books from falling out.

On our boats we made shelfs that worked fine. Make a standard shelf. Add a front cross bar in front of the books so they can not fall out and you just pick them above the bar to take them out. You can also make the bar so it unhooks so you can remove the books if there is not room above the books. Both work.. We had them up to 6 feet long. But had a lot of time to read then.. Where did time go???

I also take a lot of books with me - but on a Kindle.  Think I've got over 200 in there now.
But - I know that's not what you're asking... If you do want to make shelves you can use what I think is called galley rail across the front.

I have found that switching to paperbacks was the answer, both in storage room and weight. I usually have 20 or so at any one time. They fit easily in one of our overhead compartments. I go to Friends of the Library sales at least once a year and pick up a great many for very little cost (usually about a half-dollar each). Many campgrounds also have a book exchange, usually at the laundry, and I find exchanging a softback much easier than a loved hardback. I prefer the heft, size, and feel of a hardback but some things have to give when your space is limited.

I have the Nook Color. I like it but I still end up buying lots of books- I like having a real book with paper to hold.

Kindle is the way to go especially in a space-restricted RV. Some campgrounds have a book swap if you absolutely have to have one in your hand.

Space is one consideration but weight is another. How many hundreds of pounds of books do you want to be hauling around?

I want a bookcase that holds books for camping six weeks at a time and luckily I have room right against the wall next to the door for it to sit. When we travel the bookcase lays on one of the bunks and the books travel in twp Rubbermaid boxes. The boxes sit under the 40 inch table that sits under the awning next to the pull down stove top.
If we are only staying somewhere for one or two days the bookcase probably does not get set up but we seldom do that.
When I am done with a book if I do not want to keep it, I put it in the restroom with a sign that it needs a new home.
Most of books I take cost anything from a dime to a dollar so I do not mind taking them with me.Used of course. I do take reference books that go with us trip after trip.
