I'm glad Bud is home safely! I know your heart must have skipped a few beats!
Cat your right, I had a rescue Collie Neil about 10 years ago that got out. He was gone for over a week. I had flyer's all over town and a local radio station had a lost pet alert. Neil was found a week later from the opposite side of town. I had visions of that occurring again.

Sure glad the store cared, and kept him safe, and called you. Talk about scary. Glad there was a happy ending, and Bud is ok.

I think you found a new store to patronize, a lot.
I tried to give them a reward but they would not accept it. I might try a restaurant gift certificate. I was very grateful they cared enough to get involved.

Oh, I though of another one.

How could I forget. Our last trip to St. Louis to visit family, after about a 6 hour drive Jill charged out the door around Sandy when we arrived at the campground. If this had happened two or even 1 year ago she would have been gone for good. Being the flight risk that she was from day 1, I've worked with her enough that she'll reluctantly come to me (that took at least a year and a half) when I bend down and pat my thigh. We were both panicked for about 30 seconds though...

I thought I had good recall with Bud but I guess I was wrong. I hope he grows out of his fear of storms as Lassie did.

I'm glad you got Bud back.

Our Sam took off last summer because of a lightning strike. He and his flock were along the woods on one of our fields when a storm came near. We had one very close strike (probably in the woods). Sam took off and we didn't see him again until the next day. We have no idea where he went. I'm hoping he found a safe place to hunker down amongst the round bales in our loafing shed (3-sided 60'x40' pole building).

Kodi and Ursa are now on high alert for the wildlife in our area. Elk stroll through the yard daily. Lynx chasing snowshoe rabbits through the yard. Squirrels moving about everywhere. So, we're being overly cautious and ensuring they are leashed outside the fenced area.

I wonder though ... do the wolves look at our dogs and think, "Dopes on a rope?"

Many dogs & cats in this area become snacks for the wolves & coyotes. At only 50 lbs Kodi is an easy target for the wolves. Ursa's 90 lbs gives her a bit more advantage, but she's still vulnerable to two 150 lb wolves who live in our area.
The only wild animal we have is fox. At Ely where my seasonal lot is there are Wolves and Bears.

Once while I was still working and DH was home/retired, he let the Scotties out into the yard. Unbeknownst to him, someone had passed by the front gate and opened it. Some time later, DH went to call the boys in and found no dogs and an open gate. So he started looking all over. He had the neighbors in our little town all engaged, but couldn't find them. He finally did find them. They had crossed the street, wandered about a block down to the edge of town and were plodding through a farmer's muddy field. They were caked in mud head to toe. He gathered them up and bathed them twice before I got home and I had to do it again to get the mud out.

That was the end of Bailey and Neal's "field trips."

Glad Bud was able to find you! A great tip I learned when I volunteered at our local animal shelter - we put the words "If I am alone, then I am lost." on the back of Zoey's name tag, along with (obviously) our phone number.

Congrats again on your happy ending!
