Read my previous post.
Illinois Beach SP is EXACTLY halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee.

OK so still having trouble with Wisconsin and Chicago. Wisconsin I think 4 nights in Door County, 3 nights in the Dells and Maybe 3 nights by Milwaukee at a lake or something. Mirror Lake and Devil are all booked up as is Peninsula in Door County and most of the state parks in those locations, darnit! So any other thoughts and time in those areas? I am going to look into some of the suggestions for Chicago yet. Kentucky Joe, you mention my son will love the dunes. You know my soft spot
Just so you know, based on recommendations here I have booked three nights at Ocean Waves Outer Banks, two nights at Platte River Campground in MI, four nights at Lakeshore Campground St Ignace, Two nights at Bay Furnace Mi (got a site right on the Lake), and three nights in Nashville at Seven something or other. Oh and I booked five nights at Cherry Hill in Washington DC. Thanks for all the tips! I sooo very much appreciate it...
We do a lot of traveling but we are retired and don't have rigid time restrictions. My concern is you are trying to plan too much - have a route and things to see/do at various destinations but be flexible. Weather can spoil some outdoor plans/activities. What if you really like an area and want to spend more time. If you have reservations that force you to move on, you will be disappointed. I always think it is better to really see an area well even if it means not going to some other places. There will be other trips in the future to go to areas you missed. Just don't wear yourselves out by trying to do too many things and not have some relaxation.

Camper Joe- I see and we could spend 8 days between Milwaukee and Chicago. Gonna check out Illinois Beach
tripalot- I appreciate your advice and get where you are coming from. On the other hand, we kind of are doing the trip this way so that we know where we would like to go back to in the future. While I may regret leaving one place, we will still be looking forward to the next. At the end of the trip we are staying in a luxe cabin in the GA mountains for a week for that vacation from a vacation. Thanks also for pointing out about the weather... Seriously didn't give that any thought... LOL
