I just read the Refrigerator 101: The NORCOLD ADVANTAGE article in April-May HIGHWAYS magazine. Nowhere does it indicate that it is a paid advertisement from NORCOLD, rather inferring that it is an instructional article showing the advantages of NORCOLD refrigerators. No mention is made of the fire potential and history of these appliances. Does anyone else think this is shameful, or is it just me? A new rv'er reading this tripe would probably think he should rush out and buy one.

It is just you. You obviously do not like Norcold. I, on the other hand, have been a RV tech for 33 years and have EXTENSIVE knowledge of Dometic and Norcold refers and would have NO qualms about buying/using or having my family or friends use/have ANY Norcold product in their RV. The supposed fire potential is blown way out of proportion to the actual actual fires caused by cooling units. Remember, the current recall is only for 1 specific model (1200) that has hundreds of thousands out in use.

I have no problem owning a Norcold. Not all models have had fire issues. Mine is not on any recall list unlike the Dometic I had.

It is my understanding that the new Norcold units do not have any issues with regards to fire potential.

If yours is a 12xx model or ½ dozen of the other models that are fire prone, there is a recall, just not being published like they used to. Mine NEVER showed up on any published Norcold recall list and I was NEVER notified of any recall, but the dealers have a list you won't see and mine was on that list. I wouldn't trust Norcold as far as I could throw them. we have ordered a residential model to get the fire prone Norcold out of our coach. I found the article to be very wrong and believe me, I will never say a kind word about Norcold, no matter who they pay to advertise their fire boxes.

Only those built AFTER October 2010 and installed after Dec 2010. However, with their track record, there is no way I would trust anything they say.

No magazine editor who has a desire to keep on selling advertising space is going to denigrate a product or the manufacture regardless of past historical performance.

I'll bet you a cold adult beverage that someone from Norcold either wrote the article or approved it before the copy went to press.

The newer Norcold 1200's are the same as the older ones, they just come with the recall box/thermal cutoff already installed. With the recall now on revision E, which version do those units have? Will there be a recall to install revision F, G, or maybe H?

Tex,

Mine is a 1095 made in 2008 and according to Norcold is not on any recall.

1. Dealers DO NOT have a "special" list that is NOT on Norcolds website. ANY Dometic or Norcold recall list is on Dometic or Norcold's website and ANYONE can access that list with a Computer
ALL 1200/1201 Norcolds are part of the recall until 10/15/2010 builds.
2. There ARE Norcold recalls listed that go back 25 years and over the years Norcold has paid for advertisements in RV magazines to find any of those OLD refers that did not have the recall done. For a while, Norcold even offered cash incentives to both the customer AND the Service center to find recalls that were not done.
3. As I said, I KNOW a LOT MORE than you and the ONLY fires I have seen on 1200 Norcolds were NOT caused by the cooling unit but by dirty LP burners (rodent nests) and leaking LP connections and these did not destroy the RV just burnt up wiring and controls which even when OUT OF WARRANTY, Norcold paid to fix even tho it was NOT a Norcold fault.
