My wife made a reservation at a campsite call spring hills in KY. so I asked my wife if she got a confermation # or did he take a deposit?
Her reply was NO so I said what is to prevent this guy from giving your full hook up to someone else? Has anyone out there been thru this situation? Thank you in advance>>>>>

The "guy" gives you a confirmation number...."what is to prevent this guy from giving your full hook up to someone else?"

A confirmation number means nothing!

I would think it would be rare for someone to hold a site with NOTHING at stake for the park owner. If it comes down to one site left and someone pulls in wanting it I'm betting the first cash in hand takes the site. Only exception MIGHT be if you called and told him you'd be there within the hour or similar and GOT there within the hour.

In every CAMPGROUND I've ever stayed at you paid up front AND got a confirmation number with a reservation. May not always be the case with RV parks as they're privately operated and owners can make their own decisions about how they run their businesses.

I understand your angst, but we've made reservations many times without a confirm# or deposit and never had a problem. We just may have been lucky. I suspect the CG knows they won't be crowed during the time you made reservations though. If they knew they would be filled, they'd want to make sure you showed up so they didn't lose the rental.

Calm down. CG's are in the business of renting campsites, not shafting potential customers.

I think the original poster does have a point. Renting a camping space is not too different from renting a hotel room. I always insist on a written confirmation by email or snail mail from hotel management. It has proven useful on more than one occasion when the hotel was overbooked. Perhaps campground operators are a little more responsible to their patrons but I would hate to count on it.

I stayed at that campground last summer. You will not have any problem. A very nice Amish couple owns/runs the place.

So ... you must have given your name for the reservation.
Just call them again and get a confirmation number, or pay a deposit if you want.

I make many reservations during the "off" season and many times I never get a confirmation number and no deposit is required. Never a problem. I have often asked and have been told there was no need for that.

I understand your concern so why not just give them a call?

Well it's unusual but not unlikely at a mom/pop operation. They may keep their reservations in a real ledger you write in, not a computer.

Just call them back and say you want to verify the reservation, and ask for some type of confirmation number or a snail-mail letter if necessary.
