larry barnhart, your post is very interesting. I have been on Warfarin for bypass & mechanical Aortic valve, and will be forever. Tried to purchase a machine to take the reading myself but was told I could not buy one.
Mind teling us where your wife obtained hers?
Thanks,

I asked my DH's cardiologist about the meters. When they first came out, he said they were not reliable. When I asked him a couple years later, he said that the reliability problems were found to be the way the individual was getting the sample. If they were squeezing their finger, it resulted in a different score. So, he said that if the sample is taken properly, they were reliable enough. We were looking into getting one, but they decided to take DH off coumadin, so we no longer have to worry about it.

I think the meter would be the way to go.

Dr. changed me to Pradaxa which does not require a blood test routine.
Check your cardiologist!

Good luck Pradaxa users. Have you seen the bad drug ads by lawyers on TV. I looked into the hand held device two years ago $1,300 made me stay with lab visits.

Usmohis2 , I have a fib and can't take any aspirin or anti inflammatory drugs. I have arthritis so badly I have had to have my knee replaced so I miss those products a lot. Right now i feel good so I will keep taking the Pradaxa.
