I just need to convince the boss that this is a great deal and worth the $$. I just wanted to know if there was anything that I should look at. Thanks for all your great encouragement.
Bought my '05 (3500 SRW longbed)in 2008 with 20K miles on it. The engine has been trouble free as has the transmission and rear axle, except for a leaking seal in the transmission tail shaft at the u-joint. I did have to replace the front brake rotors and pads at 40K miles, the rotors were cracked.
I've had a couple problems with water leaking through the cab roof clearance lamps (replaced them), but the 2500 usually doesn't come with them unless they're part of an option package. Also had a water leak through the driver's door inner gasket, replaced it and no longer a problem.
We tow a 5th wheel that weighs about 12K with our truck. Tows nicely, fuel mileage when towing ranges from 9.5 to 11.5 mpg. We've been pleased with it, especially the price we paid for it.

Might tell the boss it get ~20 MPG. You really couldn't ask for much more. A low mileage, not worked, from a good friend who takes care of his vehicles for 8k below blue book. This is really a no brainier IMO.

What's your friend's phone number? I'd fly out and buy it for that price. Probably even be able to sell it for 2k over book before I got home with it.

Some 05s had plastic intercooler tanks but that sure wouldn't be a deal breaker. I don't think they are a problem when left stock. Craig

It will get as good fuel mileage as most any gas fueled full size truck. Keep up the maintenance, and it will last as long as you care to own it. I love mine and plan on keeping it forever. Gene

58K and a '05? In good shape and blue book price it would be a keeper. You would be hard pressed to find any diesel that reasonably priced.
One of the other questions though to ask yourself is whether you need a 4x4 or not. I did not think I would need it, but the first time out with the Puma that made all the difference in the world.
All in all, it is still wise to run it past a good diesel mechanic and that person check it over.
My mechanic prefers the GMC trucks over the Dodge trucks. Its like heresy as Cummins have such a strong reputation. Its just their experience that makes them feel this way.
But for 8K off blue book, if its all you say it is you would be foolish to pass it up.

Like you stated, the intercooler is fine with stock boost. The only problem I've had with mine (original owner) is the HVAC recirc/fresh air door went bad.

I would check the repair history including the service records for the auto tranny as these are notorious for early failures. The 5.9 itself is very respectable, but again need service records to demonstrate fuel filters were changed and engine oil/filters.
Good luck...
