I would buy the one your DW wants. All kidding aside I would get the DP. We have had both and by far we prefer the DP and yes the DW likes it much more than I. I do like it though. Do your due diligence on price.

Better deal (low price?) or better value?
Also you may want to go to www.rvknowhow.com and read the Kieva's suggestions on how to select an RV.

Not sure the "better value" is the right question to ask. They are totally different coaches and the power, ride, and amenities will be significantly better/more on the DP. The gas model will be less costly to own and maintain as oil changes and yearly maintenance requirements will be much cheaper. The DP'er, however, will give you a higher level of interior material/fabrics and better basement storage. The engine is in the rear so going down the road will be much more comfortable and chatting will be easier. The diesel engine will accentually last forever if properly maintained where the gas engine will need to be refreshed much sooner.
I believe you need to do some more homework, drive both units, choose the floor plan that works best for you and go with it. We have owned 3 class A units all of which have been DP'ers, we would own nothing else if we were to buy a 4th class A. IMHO if your budget will handle the DP, no question about it, in the long run spending the extra $10K will seem like a a good deal!

X2, this is a buyers market out there, lots of good rigs that are newer and will require less upkeep.

the winnie has a fiberglass roof, don't think the safari does?
winnie is still in business. my 99 winnebago chieftain with about same mileage and length is a much better coach for the same money.

Which one best fits the way you will use it? The average annual usage of an RV is less than 5000 miles. Neither engine will wear out at that rate. The gas engine is cheaper to maintain, especially if you do some of the service. The diesel will cost more to maintain, especially if you have to pay for service.
Of those two, the Safari was a higher quality unit when built. Keep in mind that both units will have electronics that are out-dated, if they have not already been changed.
Are complete service records available? Can you talk with the previous owner?
Lots of questions and not enough info to decide here.
