The city of Monclova has had a reputation for nuisance stops by the local police for minor or imaginary infractions.
Never the less, for the last two years we have driven that route down and up Hwy 57 using the Eagle Pass / Piedras Negras crossing. The roads are good and the customs stop is convenient.
At Monclova, we take the circular route around to the west. Each passing we have encountered local police with no interruption. I have written in detail about this by-pass in an earlier posting - do a search for Monclova.
Last week, coming up to Monclova we saw a painted sign that I noticed said something about No Mordita. Then another and another. So we pulled over and took a picture. DI NO A LA MORDIDA

Don't know. It is a Mexico number, as one out of country would be 001...
And in our several drives though Monclova haven't had any issues.
Some one went to quite a bit of effort to make and install the signs so I take it as a good sign.
Maybe Tampico will be next?

The drive up was the easiest ever. I designed it to stay at RV Parks all the way. Had better sleeps than we do at Pemexes.
The border crossing was quick. The gal at the customs booth had her machine read our vehicle passes and gave receipts for both. I found the $300. deposit on the truck was a credit in our Visa account 2 days later.
Even the US Custom guys with their serious and thorough search, were cordial.
Bien Viaje!
