I just replaced all 6 tires on my Horizon. Were the old tires still good? Maybe but I'm not going to chance a blowout and the damage it causes to a motor home. I just saw a newer motor home come into Lazy Days Tucson that blew a front right tire and it tore the entire wheel well off. Pretty pricy damage. I feel replacing the tires every 6-7 years is pretty cheap insurance compared to the damage a blow tire causes. Seeing tires are the only thing between me in the road I'm not going to go cheap, that includes the brand of tires I buy. It is Michelin for me. That's MHO for what it is worth. Good Luck and Happy Motorhoming!

Pretty simple solution that EVERYONE should follow.
-Know what inflation pressure to run based on your rigs weight/load
-cover tires if in direct sunlight when idle
-UV protect tires with 303 or equivalent if covers arent an option
-over inflate the tires when in storage

I would check them carefully...if not cracking, not damaged, and not rock-hard, I would run them and not worry about it. I'll be doing 4500 miles this summer on at least one tire older than yours.

I have a classic car that unfortunately stays outside. The tires are 12 years old with only about a 1000 miles on them. I try and move the car monthly and treat the tires with 303. I keep tire pressure towards the higher end. They still look like new. My MH has tires date stamped 2008, and still look like new. I use the MH often, at least twice a month year round. I also treat those tires with 303. I do not use strong detergents to clean my tires though. I would rather use elbow grease and 303 to remove dirt. I would think using a strong soap would shorten the life of the tires by removing the stuff that actually protect them. I hope to get 4 or more years on these tires. I will replace them if I see any signs of cracking.
Full timing it since July 2012 My pics

Lets look at the facts......the coach is almost 13 years old. The current tires were replaced sometime after March, 2005. You bought the coach in 2007, which was 5 years ago. What you cannot account for is the 2+ or - years that the tires were used before the coach was purchased. IF you have had 5 years of trouble free service from those tires, I would guess that they are probably in good shape and may last for a few more years.
If you have hit a lot of pot holes, run over a curb or two, ran them underinflated, let them sit for many months in one place, etc, than you may want to have a complete, off of the rim, inspection to check for any damage.

For you guys out there that have experienced blowouts, could you share some specifics about tire care, how often you moved the motorhome, proper tire inflation, and speed travelling before blowout. Maybe we can find some common factors that caused these blowouts besides the age of the tire.

Some will wait longer and take a chance of a blow out, and they cause a lot of damage to the wheel well costing thousands of dollars. To me it is not worth it being cheap and not changing them every five years.
I agree you are risking increased chance of failure but new tires can have a defect and fail also. Besides ,aside safety issues ( front tire blowout at speed) insurance covers my damage not me .. That's why I buy insurance but that's just my take .
My post's are my opinion The advice, comments etc are free and worth what you paid

I used to be in the "Run them until they wear out, as long as they still look good" camp until I blew a "perfectly good" tire right at the 7-year mark. From now on, I'll replace them when they're 6 or 7 years old.
The rest of you, of course, are free to do as you please.

If this is the case THEN why do these companies refuse to warranty there tires over five years. When I called Michelin about my XRV tires getting small cracks on the side walls at one month passed the five year date stamped on the tire, they backed away from ever saying tires put out by Michelin were good up to ten years. They told me five years is the max.
