Another 6.0PSD, that is. It's in a 2005 F450 wrecker with about 105,000 on the engine (second engine, installed under warranty by a Ford truck dealer) came apart spectacularly last night. Climbing a highway hill with a van on the hoist, the trans kicked out of OD, the engine wound to ~3000RPM...then dropped a valve, that piston shattered, and the connecting rod did a spectacular lawnmower-blade effect, essentially ripping the entire bottom end apart.

Time to Destroke another 6.doh.

Not a typical occurance for any engine to come apart. I've heard of very FEW of them that ever came apart like that. You can sink a LOT of money in things like head bolts, EGR and oil coolers and injectors but they usually ALWAYS get you to the garage. I averaged a couple of thousand bucks every trip I took with mine but it ALWAYS ran perfectly all the way to the garage.

I got the impression that it was a fuel system problem, so, its now the whole engine?

Something about this story from the OP sounds fishy... Dropping a valve is something I never heard happen on the 6.0 psd.

Now I've heard of Cummins dropping valve seats causing some nasty catastrophic failures!
