Does anyone have an idea why the truck mfg's decided we need to have a truck 6' (facetiously) off the ground. They keep getting taller and taller. Consequentially the trailers get higher and higher, flipped axles etc. 3 steps to get in the trailer. Hitting max allowable height on trailer (13'6")
Has anyone looked into lowering the truck and then lowering the trailer for a more stable ride? I'm not talking about a "lowrider" but a 2-4" drop would be great. At least in my opinion.

i am definatly in agreeance! just bought a new 2012 denali dually last october, didnt even think about it when i purchased it about the height. Thats the main reason i bought this new truck as my last duramax had an 8" lift on it. First think i had to do after i bought the denali was have a 6" lift put on my camper so i could get adequate clearence, with every possible adjustment i could make while still keeping the camper as level as possible ill i have from the bedrails to the bottom of the camper is 6" MAX. Which is fine for me as i dont offroad, but youd figure an gm would know a good percentage of us that buy their duramax's pull campers/fifth wheel style hitched trailers. Nonetheless the trucks a beast, but wasnt expecting to do such a lift on the camper to make it useable.

Well trucks use to come with 15" tires........then 16"....then 17"......then 20"
That along with the higher cargo capacities required stiffer spring packs.
Then add on 'styling'.........

I dropped my 2008 Chebbie rear end by using drop shackles. It lowered it enough (3") that I have the needed bed clearance and my 5er is almost level when towing. My manufacturer says that "slightly nose up" towing is OK. Mine is my defination of "slightly high"

Marketing. Some weenies at corporate think bigger is cool. Unfortunately they completely fail to take into account ho hard it is to lift 50 pounds over the side and into the bed when they are so high off the ground. All new trucks are totally impractical for everyday use now. Until people refuse to buy them things are not going to change.

I wish I could lower mine. I needed a 4wd or would have bought a lower truck. We did get smaller wheels/tires when we bought it.

Here is one almost 6' off the ground.They did have to mod the trailer a little.
"If momma not happy ....Who cares.I have my TH AND my toys .

Those of you who don't like the tall trucks, apparently only use your trucks in one dimensional fashion. Pulling oversized, overweight, overpriced fivers, and never going off the concrete highway.
Trucks are taller because that's what the rest of us, the majority, need and want. Farmers, ranchers, construction workers, outdoorsmen, hunters, fishers, weekend warriors. And we want to pull fivers too. So that's what the truck designers give us, and the trailer manufacturers have to adapt.
If you don't like it, don't buy one. The MDT are lower. Those might fit your one dimensional purposes better.
