There are two routes from my house to my office. The "fast" way takes the freeway and the "slow" way takes back roads. The two routes cross near a cliff. Recently, the cliff has collapsed and part of the freeway is now at the bottom of the cliff. So they have been working on the freeway, making that route now the "VERY SLOW" way (as in 1-2 hours slower). So I've been taking the "slow" route for the past few weeks. From the bridge, I can see the progress on the freeway.
Two weekends ago, it looked like they'd finished the work. From the bridge, I could see the new freeway lane and all the traffic barrels had been removed. So last Monday, I took the "fast" way. Big mistake. It took me an extra 1.5 hours to get to work as they were back working on the freeway (in the same section as before).
So Tuesday, I take the "slow" way and from the bridge, I can see again that they've stopped worked and removed the traffic barrels. So Wednesday, I take the "fast" route. It is again backed up and they are again working on it. So I take the "slow" route on Thursday & Friday, noting that on BOTH days, the traffic is flowing clear and there are no traffic cones. Looks like they are done this time.
So today, I take the "fast" route, and again they are working on the section, have one lane blocked, and I am an hour late to work.. I think they are deliberately trying to drive me insane.
wow, what a pain in the butt! i try to always check out google maps at home before i leave for work. if i forget i check it out on the iphone in the car. it's not perfect, but it has saved me from sitting in traffic a bunch of times.

Take a look at the time of day you hit the passing of that area. Road work rarely starts before 8am around here and stops between 5pm and sometimes sunset.

For me it would not be a drive ... only a short putt.
Didn't you see the car that watches which way you go and then calls ahead to say "set up the work area"?

You got it! My "slow" route is Bethel Road into Faulkville. I didn't figure anyone would get that level of detail. Some days it was so bad, they were backed up to the Hartselle exit. On those days I could just turn around in the Cracker Barrel parking lot and take Kyle to Bethel and then on to Faulkville. Note, those of you who don't live around here will have no idea what I am going on about.
I saw they were again "done" today on my way home. Not sure if I should take the "slow" again Tuesday or take a chance on them being done...
One more of those "days" and I will be putt right into insanity...

That caught me one day. My wife needed to be into work EARLY and she called me saying it was clear. When I got on the freeway, it just stopped. It seems they were fixing BOTH lanes that morning and just shut the highway down.
