One of the items that the original owner of my 07 Newmar never paid any attention to was the water heater sacrificial anode replacement, I have tried for two days to break it free. Put penetrating oil on it, got a breaker bar on the 1/2 inch wrench and it has not budged. I "assume" it is a normal thread to remove. I was thinking of getting out the impact wrench, but I really don't want to replace the entire water heater. Any words of advice?

Thanks,
Larry

I doubt he has oxy/acet. Try Mapp gas on it (burns hotter than propane). You can pick it up with a torch at a hardware store fairly cheap. Then store the torch in your RV as they are great for starting camp fires.

Sometimes you can 'loosen' the plug by attempting to slightly tighten first.

Just be sure you are turning the anode rod to the left to remove it...counter-clockwise.

First make sure that you actually have one. Not all water heaters use the anode rod. My Atwood has an aluminum clad tank and it has a drain plug that is next to impossible to get out, BUT there is no anode rod to change.

Use PB BLASTER,(much better then WD40 or the likes) any auto/marine shop will have it. Let is soak in. The threads are common pipe thread so it will soak down the threads. There is probably a crust built up on the inside also.

One old trick that often works is to TIGHTEN it first then loosen it.

Take it to a garage that has an air impact wrench; they likely wouldn't even charge anything to do that.
