I use the a Scan Gauge for my O6 F150 to monitor the the trans temp. It has been several years ago that I set it up. I believe I went to the Scan Gauge website and found info on how to program it. Wish I could tell you more.... But I have sleep a few nights since then and age does do wonders to the old gray matter.

I returned from the trip and my avg MPG is 10.7,low of 9.8 and hi of 11.5.The scan guage helps by giving accurate feedback. The 06 has no tow haul and I found by shifting out of OD earlier on a hill helps.Desert Capt. reported 8% increase, mine is 7% on first trip.
Also found out my water temp is very good..never above 198 avg is 195 towing and 189 not towing, and it was 101 in Casa grande when I returned.I also found my best speed was 63 MPH towing.
I also found out in 2006 they used both the old and new protocal.Mine has the older one .the newer one will give trans temp

Pretty simple. The instant MPG readout gets me to the speed where I get the best mileage. Maybe 60, maybe 65 it all depends the conditions.
