Looking for the best route to pull our 40' fifth wheel from Luray to Niagara Falls. MS S&T has us going up Hwy 219 which appears to be the most direct route; however, the road looks like it is a two lane road through various small towns. How good is this route or is there a better way?

Where is Luray? What state?

US 219 runs north/south and in the PA/NY area goes through the Allegany National Forest and is mostly 2 laned. The road is generally good. It's been 4 or 5 years since I traveled the 219 but IIRC, seems there is a low bridge on the north side of Ellicotville, NY. I don't remember the height, so you might want to check on the web. 219 becomes 4 lane divided north of Springville, N.Y. and merges with I-90 north of Orchard Park. Not far to Niagara Falls from the south towns as they are called.

Ok... I'm with you, now. I'd take the 219 from there. Just double check that low bridge area that I seem to recall around the Ellicotville, NY area. There's probably a round about if needed. For the life of me, I can't remember the height and a 40' high profile 5er might make a difference. Sorry about that. My memory ain't what it used to be and I'd rather err on the side of caution. Have a safe journey.

I would also avoid that short stretch of I-86 just before Salamanca NY, it was a nasty piece of road last time I used it. I now go just past it and use 417 instead. It's worth the extra couple of minutes.

I live near Staunton, VA, only an hour or so from Luray. I took route 219 to Buffalo last spring. The road is mostly 2 lane. It goes thru many small towns and winds up and over a few small mountains. There aren't very many places to stop for fuel or food if you have a very large rig. We have a truck camper so I don't mind all of these things. In fact, I enjoy out of the way routes like this. We are actually planning on going this way again in a few weeks.
If I had a 40' trailer like you I would probably look for a different route.
