Certainly would be a lot cheaper.

Is there a difference between Windshield washer fluid and Windex.

yes. Windex does a better job, It is a bit more agressive as it were.

Could you use windshield washer fluid at home.. YES.

Windex in the washer bottle.. NO.

Why: Windex can't take the heat in the engine compartment. Some of it's active ingredients will be rendered inactive by engine heat.

I bought a squeegee and use warm water with very little sunlight dish soap.

After watching the pros do store windows I asked them and that is what they use.

I would never look back now.

Windex will also freeze in the winter. Washer fluid is a poor window cleaner. It's really just water with some anti freeze in it. Windex has ammonia in it. Washer fluid does not. The best thing I've found for cleaning windows is "Invisible Glass".

Thanks for the help. I was looking for some alternatives when I cleaning windows at work. I could never figure out why windex is a lot more expensive than windshield wash.
Guess I'll stick with windex while washing windows at work.

I think our custodians at my school use a diluted solution of vinegar and water in a spray bottle. At least that's what it smells like. I can check tomorrow and find out if you'd like me to. You might Google "cleaning with vinegar" and see what you find!

If you are using it just at home use vinegar and water. Cup of vinegar to a gallon of water for you auto or house windows. Works great of both and it is cheaper,,,,no streeks either!

I worked at a state fairgrounds one summer and we used windshield wiper fluid to wash windows in a building with many display cases. The stuff is awful for washing windows. I think they would have saved enough on labor to pay for real window cleaner.

For the outside of my windows at home I use soapy water and a squeegee to wash the windows. Way faster than Windex and paper towels or rags.
