Not very efficient. I used those transformers when we lived in Europe. After living there a few years we wore out the U.S. appliances (there's also a difference in power frequency that makes U.S. appliances run slower), and we bought European replacements. We sold the European appliances when we rotated back to the states.
The transformers generate heat and they hum. The heat generated translates into lost power. Better to use only one side of the four pronged plug, or get another generator with higher capacity.

The transformer allows the full 5500 to be utilized. Surly it is better than 50% efficient.
The generator is 60Hz so that is a non issue.

I'd suggest upgrading to a decent inverter generator. Avoid Boliy. Mine won't start at 30 F making it an expensive piece of plastic and metal for six months of the year.
I have a bit of homework for you.. Google "Boutique Gas"
See if the stations in your area sell a "Summer formula" in the summer time.
If they do, This summer formula is modified to increase the vapor temp, so at low temps it does not vaporize properly.. Not a problem in an engine with direct fuel injection but is if it's carberated.
It might just be the fuel in the tank.
Still.. Like your advice.

Thanks for the input thus far. I have so little knowledge of this stuff it is embarassing.
Check out the above. Benefits? How much wattage is being transferred to the 30 amp receptacle?

You must verify the 5-15 outlets are connected in parallel and I suspect they are not and will cause dead short and overload if this device is used.

It doesn't combine the output to make 30 amps. One leg is dead. You are only getting 20 amps, all it does is replace the hockey puck adapter and gives a more stable plugin.

Correct.
For the AC running problem, easy fix is add the quick start capacitor.

Now...you mentioned that you weren't very good at knowing these things....well, you just have to do what I did when I got my RV....I started making lists of the things I needed to know, and began reading all the forums, and reading what those members suggested.
I made folders with links to everything that seemed important to know.
Now, I feel confident going out camping anywhere I want, whether its a fancy RV resorts, or boondocking in BFE for long periods.
If something breaks down, I have a pretty good chance of fixing it, or at least patching it up until I can get help.
And I've learned what spare things to carry, without overloading the RV.
