I don't blame you for not wanting the E4OD tranny. It really does suck in general and the shifting is truly stupid. I wish my '97 did not have an E4OD in it. That is the only thing I detest about the truck.

The 4R100 tranny in the '99-'04 gas trucks and '99-'03 diesels is basically the SAME tranny as the E4OD, with improvements in the shifting. I personally would not want the 4R100.

While I would prefer a 4R100 over an E4OD, I'd MUCH rather have a ZF 5 speed manual in the old body, or a ZF 6 speed manual in the new body, than either the E4OD or 4R100 autos.

The only Ford autos I would truly want, besides the C6, are the TorqShift 5R110 5 speed (which we have in the '05 E350 van, it is a very good tranny indeed) and the new Select Shift 6R140 6 speed, in the 2011-up F250-550's.

Being scared of a 7.3 diesel in a truck to use as tow vehicle is just stupid. That is a perfect engine for that purpose. I would much rather have a 7.3 than a '99-'04 V10 with a 4R100. The '05-up V10 with 5R110 I would want, that would be a good combination.

I can understand you not wanting a truck that has a bunch of minor issues to fix. That can be annoying if you just want something to drive as-is don't want a project to tinker with.

Only thing about the 99 V-10 is its lacking in power compared to one model year newer trucks. If its in good shape though I dont know that it would be a deal breaker. Just something to be aware of

Soo, I am probably going to buy the 99 Dually Crew Cab F350 in the XL package.

Specs,

V10, crew cab, AC, Heat, Cassette player (LOL), Automatic, Power Steering and power brakes. Manual everything else.

XL package which means vinyl seats and benches (not an issue for us)

Its just a basic truck, for one purpose, hauling the family, travel trailer, and future golf cart around.

In my and my wires mind (she point to this one and said "Buy it") this is a win for us, we get a newer vehicle, more capable vehicle, and an ability to upgrade the trailer in the future.

Since the V10 is similar in design and function to my old 5.4 I think that the maintenance should be about the same for me.

Anyhoo. Any V10 towers want to share the experience with me? MPG about 8 towing?

Thanks! and I can't wait to pick up our new truck.

Jeremiah

Sounds like a perfect truck for you and your family. Once you get it post some pictures for us. We love pictures : )

The 96 has been moved to no status.

There are some issues with it. It really needs some minor work.

The tranny,, ahh, the e4od. It shifted all over the place, maybe not anything wrong with it, but it just didn't feel right.

Plus I am a little ehh on the diesel thing. (3 gallons of motor oil????) This truck will only be driven a few times a week since we got my wife a daily driver car now.

Good luck with your new to you truck! While down on hp 275-310 compared to a year newer V10 the torque is close 410-425. I don't think towing a person would really feel the difference. Again good luck and post some pics when you get it.

Hey everyone,

The search is over,

Keys and cash exchanged.

We now own the 99 F-350 Crew Cab Dually, V10, 3.73.

I think it is in great condition for a 99, here is a picture of the truck after I dropped my buddy off who went with me to pick up the truck.

Here are a few of the pics from the ad,

There are no rails for a fifth wheel,

The receiver is a big one, it has a WD capacity of 17,000 lbs or 1700 tongue weight, WC mode is 750 lbs

I have had a big reality check.

I told everyone that I added a big transmission cooler to my F-150. Well, the tranny cooler on this F350 is about 6 times bigger than what I added to the F-150.

the rear end is huge compared to the 9.75

I can't wait for the first tow, now i just need to reset the WD hitch (again) and go camping!!

Thanks Everyone

Jeremiah

That and the spark plug spitting issue. A friend had a '99 V10 that spit them from both heads more than once, when the truck was still new. I would not want it.

Hey....looks excellent!!!

Do you know any history re. first owner?

It might have been a companies truck....like say a utility company for example....as it has the typical black front associated with most former company owned trucks, should mean an excellent chance of having been thru regular servicing?

Have fun with that one....now time to go bigger on the RV.....?
