I purchased a new 2009 F350 in Jul 2010. It had Continental Contitrac 275/65x18E tires. In Feb with 17,200 miles on the truck one tire had tread separation. It was replaced at the Ford dealer with a new Continental tire at a cost of $105, adjusted price. Appx 500 miles later another one separated. This time I was pulling my 5ver. Both were on the rear. Luckily I was real close to a tire dealer. I now have 4 Michelin tires.

When the first one had tread separation we were on the road not pulling a trailer and figured it was a fluke. When the second separated 500 miles later I just replaced all of them. That's one worry I don't need, wondering when the next two are going to separate.

Just for those wondering the rig had been weighed and the rear axle had 5900 lbs on it. Well below the 6693 GAWR and furthur below the tire rating of 3400 each. The tire pressure was at 80 lbs when replaced, they didn't blow out but that was coming.

Needless to say I will never own another Continental tire.

I have used Continental before and never had an issue. This is an interesting development.

I recently had all six of mine replaced on my 2008 F450 for tread separation. As most of you know the tires on the front of the truck are different than the ones on the rear. It was discovered by accident. I have the tires checked every 5,000 miles when I do oil changes. My cost to replace all six was about four hundred dollars. Continental stepped up to the plate. The tires were about 900 miles out of warranty.

My new Ford came with junk Michelin tires with weather checking as new! I had to open a case with michelin, and they agreed to replace with Michelin or BFG's. I don't care for either brand, so I am just going to drive them for a few more months and buy a set of Toyos.

They certainly should have done better, but you have had a couple of very hot summers right? I believe they actually give mileage ratings for North and South of the Mason/ Dixon line
Just me but I always replace all the rubber at the same time. How's that saying go "pay me now or pay me later" later meaning the middle of nowhere with the DW saying "I told you so".

My truck came with Continental Contitracs as standard equipment. I wore the tires out at 65,000 miles, have replaced them with Kumho tires. I now have about 65,000 on the Kumho tires, and I have plenty of tread left. Aside from a slightly noisier ride, they're good tires at a reasonable price. With the optional 18 inch forged aluminum wheels, one does not have much of a choice in tires.

I received a recall from Ford for the continentals. Just had the spare left but it was replaced for free with... another continental, since it is the spare I am not too concerned at this point but a few years down the line....

I checked on the recall after the first tire separated and it didn't apply to the tires I had. They are a later run and different size.

On a funny note the day after the second separation I got a customer satisfaction survey from Continental. Think I was polite?

My '02 F250 came with Continental tires, the worst set of tires I have ever owned, never will buy Continental.

my 08 had continental's, at 70k i put on new tires, 3 months later i received a letter from ford about the recall. I submitted the receipt and 6 weeks later had a check for the full amount, i was shocked and felt they did the correct thing.
