I'm planning on driving north on I75 thru Cincinnati in the morning after about 9am. Someone told me that it can get pretty backed up.

Any truth to that, and if so is there a better route? Just heading north on I75 up to Michigan.

It will be heavy and slow, but as long as there are no accidents it will move. We took it two weeks ago same time. It's the right way to go. Stay on 75....

It's almost like Atlanta before 6 AM after 930AM till about 2 PM are the best time as long as there are no games being played.

x2 plus the fact that the by-pass adds considerable miles to your trip and it also can be very busy.

It seems like 40 miles to me. We stayed on 75 through Atlanta twice last week too. Once was at 10 pm and once at 1 am with only a few cars and trucks. I do the same thing in Dallas and most major cities if it is less miles.

I live in Cincinnati and have driven I-75 thru the city many times. I drive a 30 foot A with tow car and have not had any major problems. Traffic flows smoothly that time of the morning. Stick to 55-60 MPH and you will be thru it in 15 minutes. I-275, either east or west, is not a good suggestion - double the time and distance. HEY Michigan - "Go Buckeyes"

OP here.

Thanks everyone for your help. Cincinnati was just as described, heavy traffic but moving. Dayton on the other hand was the other shoe falling. Didn't expect that much construction to be going on. Made for a long morning after Cincinnati.

FWIW, I bought a Garmin GPS with lane assist last fall to replace my Tom Tom. I LOVE LANE ASSIST, it really made Cincinnati a whole lot less stressful for this country boy driver.

That construction on I-75 in Dayton has been going on as long as I can remember......it seems like at least 8 years now. They apparently tear up and replace a mile or two, and then move on down a bit and start working on some more. There can't be a lot more left to tear up, unless they start all over again.

beisner is right about the smooth traffic flows (barring accidents of course). Just watch for the proper lane and stay in it....you'll have no problems. We travel through Cinci on I-75 a lot.
Now, regarding the Buckeyes, I can only say HAIL TO THE VICTORS......GO BLUE!
