I don't use anything as since I (like we all should) use a WD hitch.
The TT simply cannot come off the ball even if it is purposely unlatched.
Try it. hitch up like normal. Then undo the latch. Now try to get the coupler off the ball. Use your tounge jack, or a floor jack etc.
It simply will NOT come of the ball.

When I had a bumper pull, I used a long hasp MasterLock resettable combination lock. Correct, with a WDH, it won't come off the ball, but, I used the lock anyway so that I would know where it is since I always locked the coupler when unhitched; a side benefit with the long hasp is that the 7-pin umbilical cord also fit into it...no way for the cord to get pinched or drag the ground.
My 2 cents, your mileage may vary...

I am slow at looking at some of your posts so I am going to assume that you have already bought a coupler lock. If not look at the Coupler Vault by Megahitch Lock. I have never seen anything like this lock. I am a contractor with a enclosed cargo trailer that carries all my tools plus we have a travel trailer. I have had stollen my cargo trailer twice, and our travel trailer once in the last 10 years. I have tried severel different locks on the market. Nothing has worked or slowed down the thieves. I think the two new coupler vaults I have bought will do the trick. I already have had someone try to get it off and couldn't. I found the company online at www.megahitchlock.com. They have a video on the website showing them testing other locks. All of them were off the trailer hitchs in a matter of sec. to minutes. I am sold on the product and I would look into buying one if I was you. Even if you just bought a different lock. They will show you that it is worthless. Spend the money and get the best.

no offense but the video is a joke,
they put a lock bolt on one of the 2 hitch bolts. why not simply angle grind it off or use the sawzall and cut the bolt and remove the coupler completely like in the beginning of the video. i would have it off faster then all the cutting tricks they used
