Since none of the GPS I've used have it thought I'd ask as I consider the next one.

How well defined is lane guidance? Does it vary by model?

For example - on a left, if there are 2 left turn lanes which left turn lane does it put you in? Does it depend on things like whether your route has you entering a merge lane (probably the leftmost lane). Would one of the rv/trucker gps put you in the rightmost left turn lane as the best with a big rig?

If there are two right exit lanes off a highway with a subsequent split going in different directions on the intersecting highway does the lane guidance put you in the correct one for the route you are taking or does it just show a right exit?

On my Garmin arrows appear with one highlited to indicate which lane I need to be in.
If there are three lanes in the road then there are is three arrows.

Never seen one that handles 2 turn lanes.
Of course I have not seen them all.

On double exits or hiway splits, mine will give 2 instructions such as:
'Exit right, then keep left.

Use your GPS with some common sense also...don't rely solely on your GPS but instead use your GPS to supplement the road signs on the expressways...

I can't say for other models, but on my 1450LMT it's about worthless. If you are in heavy traffic and can't be watching the screen the lane assist is on then off before you even see it. That is just one of the many flaws with the 1450 and not a model I would ever buy again.

Here is how the Dezl 560 works.

As you are driving along, in the upper-right corner you will an indication of which way the next turn will be. As one gets nearer the turn, the upper-right corner will contain an arrow for each lane of traffic. The lane(s) you should be in are highlighted. When two or more lanes will work, it doesn't show a preference.

For turns on major roads, the Dezl will beep and display a picture of the intersection with arrows showing the lanes you should be in. These appear to be generic pictures that match the circumstances. The current software shows the pictures on the right of a split-screen. The left side of the screen shows an enlargement of the maps version of the intersection.

One also receives verbal directions: Exit right on to I-40.

Garmin 465 has the same - this is a nice feature, allows you to get over in time if necessary

Mine tells how far before the merge right or left plus the on-screen display. I like how the interstate merge works, as it lets you know ahead of time that u will have that left merge.
My GPS allows me set how far ahead I want to start receiving the notice.

My 2455 has arrows for all lanes and the ones you would use are highlighted. It also has a picture of the exit with signage. The one problem mine has is sometimes it wants you in the carpool lane which may be on the opposite side of the exit. In other words, the regular exit is on the right and the carpool exit is on the left, it will tell you to be in the left lane. Here is where a little common sense comes into play.

I also have the 1450LMT and the photo display only lasts a few seconds (bottom photo) but the lane indicator (top photo) in the upper left corner shows the correct lane until I make the turn. A huge improvement over my old one that only showed exiting left or right and no lanes.

If you read the manual, I think the photo display only comes on momentarily when approaching a turn to let you know a photo display is available for that intersection. If you tap the lane indicator in the upper left it is suppose to bring up the photo until the turn is completed. I haven't tried it but will next time I'm on a major highway.
